To keep ones mind active I suggest you delve into a hard science.  My pursuits into astronomy leads to many branches of study.  Physics, geology, mathematics, optics, electromagnetic theory, gravitational therory, quantum mechanics and of course may favorite, cosmology are just a few of the areas of study that have fueled  my imagination.
For those of you who like the 'soft' sciences; phycology, psychitry and space medicine will surely peak your interests.Since the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the dramitc mission to salvage the mirror defect, the world has been
showered with a tremendous quantity of stunning photos of comets, super nova, planetary neubula, coliding galaxies and maybe soon, extra-solar planets! The later may even lead to a profound discover of life off Earth.
