Kevin McCarthy
I am currently a graduate student at the University of South Florida.  I am working towards my M.S. in Geochemistry.  My research topic for my thesis involves a complete spatial and geochemical characterization of the shallow hydrothermal vent field known as Champagne Hot Spring, located on the island of Dominica in the Lesser Antilles.  The geochemical investigation will include a full analysis of the vent waters, gases, sediments and precipitates.  The second part of my thesis, the spatial component, involves the formation of a detailed map of the vent area with vent/gas discharge locations.  Located below is a link to an interactive map of the Champagne Hot Spring that I recently created and posted to the web.  Funding for this thesis project is provided research grants from the Geological Society of America, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Center for Latin and Caribbean Studies at the University of South Florida.  Photographs are provided by fellow graduate student Roy Price and my advisor, Dr. Thomas Pichler
