NEW RELEASES - 5 DECEMBER 1999
KINGDOM COME
Kingdom Come - Balladesque - The Pearls. on Semaphore Records. The man behind German rockers Kingdom Come, was undoubtedly vocalist Lenny Wolf. This great CD deals with the gentler, more bluesy side to the band. Wolf has also recently released a new solo album, which is great if you understand German. Nonetheless, even if you don't - it's still a great album.
ANGEL DUST
Angel Dust - Bleed. on Century Media Records. There are so many great bands coming out of Germany that it's actually quite a feat to keep up. Angel Dust is one such band, combining some serious ass kicking rock with a few really nice, laid back tunes. This is their second album to date, and is well worth adding to the collection.
BRAND X
Brand X - The X files, on Pangea Music. Brand X were always tighter than a new convict's bum, and the band was blessed with some of the world's best musicians in Phil Collins, Percy Jones and John Goodsall. This double compilation features live Brand X tracks as well as tracks from offshoots of the band, namely the Fire Merchants and others. If fusion/rock/jazz is your scene, then this CD of this legendary band is a must.
TOTO
Toto - Livefields, on Sony Music. Toto is a band that never fails to deliver the goods. When you have musicians such as Steve Lukather and Simon Phillips, you can't go wrong. Phillips is an animal, a really exciting player and certainly one of the world's best. This album was recorded during their 1999 world tour and is highly recommended.
CHARLIE DANIELS BAND
Charlie Daniels Band - Blues Hat, on Blue Hat Records. Hardly a brand new release ( it was actually released way back in 1997 ), but we've featured it here because it's now available in SA. ( Nothing like keeping up with the times! ). Charlie Daniels is of course the fella who wrote "The Devil went down to Georgia" and many other great tracks. This blues album is a welcome change from their usual Country / Rock style, and they do it well.
JANUS
Janus - Janus ( advance copy ) - no title yet, to be released on Arcade Records, probably in January 2000. Janus' roots go way back to 1971 when they released their classic "Gravedigger " album. This album is the seventh album from the band, led by guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Colin Orr, who revived Janus in 1990. If you thought 1998's "Agnus Dei 2000" was good, you'll love this new album. The two featured vocalists are Paul Phoenix and Natalie Brown, both exceptionally talented, with Sandy Bartai on cello and Dean Houston on sax.Colin Orr is a fine guitar player and composer and he deserves a lot more credit than he's afforded. Demis Roussos of Aphrodite's Child fame will shortly be recording an album with a number of Janus tracks.
