4. Size matters. Selecting the caliber.

The caliber of a weapon is the inside measure in diameter of the barrel of the weapon. The unit of measure is either in metric or English. Do not let the size of the weapon caliber intimidate you. In making your decision, remember the work has been done for us. Most law enforcement agencies use the 9mm or the .40 caliber.

Why does size matter? To stop an intruder, our weapon must make a hole and make a deep enough hole to damage tissue. The larger the hole, the deeper the hole; the more inards it tears up.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!

If you can't make holes, or in other words, cannot hit your target, then you depend only on noise, smoke, and flash. It works pretty good on all cats and most dogs, but I wouldn't depend on it with any harmful species. This is why it is so important, to get the proper training.

Proper Training is VITAL. Let me explain.

Remember when you got that new cell phone, the nice little upgrade from the analog phone to the new digital.

How long did it take you to get used to all the new features, buttons, volume control, and such? Did it ever ring in church or a movie......and you had to franticly shut it off?

Well, this should show you the importance of proper training with your new form of self protection.
 Remember

Under extreme stress, you will always react to how you were trained. Thinking is just about impossible at stressful times. You will just react.

And when it is all over, then you can think, and I doubt that you'll have the fine motor skills to even light a cigarette.

This is being really scared. We call it.

" Being so scared that you couldn't pull a greasy string out of your ass."
more to come...

Where to get the training and avoid the nerds?

How to train?

How to store your firearm?

How to carry your firearm?

What to do when stopped by the police for safety sake?

Training for the moment, when you need to respond to a threat.

Before I got on the police department, I knew zero about firing a weapon. I knew very little about safety, handling a firearm, and was pretty intimidated about the whole thing.

I guess it was similar to the first time that I took a driver's education class in school or SCUBA lessons. At first you will not be comfortable, but you just have to grin and bear it.

A fear of the unknown and the unfamiliar are natural. Education and training will erase your fears and replace them with knowledge. Practice and experience will soon replace your anxiety with confidence.

Getting trained with a firearm is a difficult journey. Going down to Uncle Buck's farm and getting your husband or buddy to teach you to "shoot" is like getting SCUBA certified on a bass boat.

My best advice is pay the money to get properly trained. This should be about the same price that you paid for your weapon. Look, if you paid as much for your weapon as a set of tires, then pay the same for training.

DO NOT CARRY A GUN WITHOUT THE PROPER TRAINING..
