| Well, I finally met Regis Philbin in Philadelphia when he & Kathie Lee were doing their show ''Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee'' I met with Regis Philbin -- what a sweet, warm man! He's terrific. I'd always appreciated the way he talked about Dean -- with such affection & respect!! Well, he's great in person -- and even though he's a celebrity himself -- he was still a lot more interested in talking Dean than in any than in anything else!! What a great guy!! I support him & his show (and encourage him sometimes with free stuff . . . ) because I love the way he helps keep Dean's memory alive! I encourage all of you to watch him too!! You never know when Dean's name will pop up!!" |
| Here's the fuller report about my Lucky Day with Regis! . . . As I said, Regis Philbin (& Kathie Lee) did a couple of their shows here in Philly (about 30 min from me) and Regis (a Dino-pal for over a year now) sent me some VIP tickets and actually wanted to meet me after the show!! Well, first off his staff treated me really really well -- they were actually looking for me!! Second, meeting Mr. Philbin was a real treat!! He was the NICEST man I think I've ever met!! And a true Dean Martin fan! If you talk to other celebrities about Dean, they may mention him, but they're still talking about themselves! Regis wanted to "talk Dean" as he put it! And he knows his stuff!! He treated me like such a gentlemen (a definite Dean trait!) and made this little ol' Dino-lover feel special! Hoping to meet with him again soon in NY and talk further! I always watch the show -- because he mentions Dean so often and talks about him with such fondness and respect!! So -- support Regis & Kathie Lee's show!! |
| Also check out his autobiography "I'm Only
One Man" -- (written w/ Rat Pack/Dino-fan Bill
Zehmne - of Esquire fame) (get the newer version - yes
it's in paperback - that has an afterward in it!) Regis
talks about visiting Dean (one of the several times he
met with him) at La Famiglia: "I've been
looking forward to tonight for a very long time. . . . I
get to see a special hero of mine again . . . A guy other
guys only wished they could be. . . . Dean Martin . . . .
Yes, he's well into his seventies . . . But what
prescence he still has. Proud. Content. Never lonely,
just alone [tho' according to the owner of DaVinci's
someone almost always met him there for dinner!]. The way
he likes it. . . . Time can be a real killer. But Dean
will always be timeless." And that's only
one spot where he talks about Dean. All the reports we
heard from the grim tabloids about Dean sitting alone in
the dark, getting drunk, so ill -- that was crap. I saw
DaVinci's and the waiters and the wonderful owner,
Dominick, who adored him -- in that fantastic restaurant!
No one could be sad in that place -- especially with
every waitier there to take care of you and play your
music and everyone from Sinatra to the fan off the street
stopping by to say "Howdy"! And Regis says it
all - "Proud. Content" -- he surely was! He had
style all of his life and those sleezey tabloids got it
wrong -- he went out in style too. Our boy never lost his
touch, never lost his Magic. A Magic that only Dean
Martin ever possessed! "Regis'' quotes used with his permission -- but go buy the book anyway. It''s worth reading the whole thing -- and there's more about Dean, of course." |
