When i met with Regis in the studio and Green Room in New York, he invited me to come and see him perform on stage in Lancaster -- and true to his word he sent me 4 FREE ($50 each!!) tickets to see him! And a backstage pass!!
So I gathered up my parents (who also live close to Lancaster) and we went to the Playhouse to see him -- and Melba Moore, his opening act. It is a beautiful building reminiscent of the old time theatres. We picked up the tickets and passes and were told that Regis would meet with us before the show becasue he had to leave right afterwards. There were several other people going back -- we found out later they had won some contest and the prize was meeting Regis. However, none of them had met him before. We went backstage and Regis was still getting into his tux. There was a reporter and camera from 6-ABC there. Reeg finally came down looking terrific in his tuxedo!! He noticed me right away from only our 2 other meetings and immediately said hi and called me by name -- which impressed me -- and my folks and the other people! He was really nice too!! He began by doing some spots for ABC -- the whole time making silly comments to me about doing them and that Dean wouldn't do a retake on a commercial and stuff like that!!
When he was done with that, he came over and greeted me warmly and gave me a kiss!! He was very sweet and asked after me and then i introduced him to my parents and he was very very pleasant with them too. I had brought some videotapes for him of Dean and Perry Como and some others and i gave those to him and he autographed a picture of himself and me together in New York for me. Then he went to meet the other people and we went to our seats. Melba Moore started the show and she was okay, but it seemed to get a little long. Finally Reeg took the stage. He sang and chatted and joked with us for the next hour and a half or so == and the time just flew by. He is a wonderful singer and a truly great entertainer. His jokes and stories were warm and wonderful. He has an easy, fun manner with the audience that makes for a terific show. He did a lot of older tunes (songs that I love) and often told little stories about the tune and what it meant to him. Then he did an absolute show stopper with a song about dads and daughters. But the highlight had to be the (by me much anticipated) "Calendar Girl" number! He starts with some good-natured Kathie Lee gags and says he may have to replace her sometime and wants to interview some ladies from the audience! He chooses several women and brings them on stage and asks them a few questions. It is really something to see it happen - you know it can't be scripted because he'd never know what the woman would say! He never misses a line and there is no dead air - he keeps the conversation light and fuuny and moving quickly! He is amusing without ever being insulting to the women. Then they all sing the number. The women were glowing! It was a fantastic evening and I hated to see it end! He does a wonderful stage show that is very entertaining and personable!
A few days later he called me to tell me how much he enjoyed the videotapes I had made - and he even mentioned my name ON THE AIR when he was telling Kathie Lee about the videos! He also was kind enough to copy the tapes for Perry Como who was excited about seeing them again too! He is really a great guy and is very warm and sweet in person! If you ever get a chance-- catch a show with the Master!!
