8-6-04 In the practice session the car was no godd, it would not bit coming out. That decision lead us to get the 2 new right side tires the car needed. Steve started the heat race in 4th, on the first lap the top 3 cars got together and Steve managed to squeeze by on the outside. Steve assumed the lead on the ensuing restart and from there he did not look back. Scott Bonney(#25) was putting heavy pressure on his back bumper the whole race. Steve nailed down his first heat win of the year followed by Bonney and Ricky Wolf(#38). In the feature Steve started in the same 4th position and jumped up to 3rd. Battling side by side for the first 8 laps with the #65 of Jim Piaseczny. Steve finally got under him on lap 9 and picked up the 2nd position. He was passed on the low side by the 38 of Ricky Wolf and then lost 2 spots to Bonney and Eric Hudson to drop to the 5th spot. On a restart later in the race Bobby Baillargeon and Keith Larmie got by and Steve was back to 7th. Steve rode in 7th untill lap 33 when he passed the 71 of Andy Suess on the restart. Locking down the 6th position for another top 10, it was a good night with minimal car damage. |

7-30-04 The car was very loose off the corners once again, Steve started 3rd in the first heat. He was charging hard on the outside to battle Ron Harkins(#62) for the lead when some contact was made on the back straight. Steve slipped back to third where he finished. The first feature saw us starting in the 4th positon. After moving up to second and battling the 62 again for the point the car went away quickly and dropped back to 4th. Steve battled through it running 7th with 3 laps left when the 24 car dove low into turn 1 and made contact with Steve dropping him back to 12th. On the white flag lap more unneeded contact was made as the 71 of Andy Suess decided to put 2 wheels in the grass and nearly spin Steve out dropping him back to 13th where we finished. After the 13th place finish that is where Steve started the second feature of the night. Wholesale changes of the car was made prior to the race. A big thanks to those involed. The car was much better as Steve moved into the top 10 quickly. But as soon as the car was getting faster, the power steering decided to go away. Steve muscled the car as high as 6th place but because of the steering problem we could only muster a 9th place finish. Not bad considering all the work everyone put into the car. Next week is autograph night, a night we always look forward to. |

7-16-04 Tonight was a battle right from the begining of the first practice. The car was very loose out of the corners. We put on new inside rubber before the start of the second practice hoping it would tighten the car up. It felt better but was still not right, so we left it alone hoping the track would tighten up a bit before the heat race. We started 3rd in the heat but once again fell victom to to staring right behind one of the slower cars in the division. By the time we got around him we were back to 9th. Steve worked as hard as he could but still only ended up 7th or 8th. the car was pushing bad coming out of the corners which is the opposite of what it was doing before. After consulting with Wayne Helliwell we put some wedge into the car for the feature. This has been our worst enemy all year, the car gets so loose about 3/4 through the feature. We started 13th in the feature and worked our way up to 10th before the first caution flag of the night on lap 5. After that caution it was some good clean racing for the remainder of the event. Steve stayed in line and held 10th the rest of the way. Another top 10 for the 98 raceteam. |
