| I am 27 years of age, but for the last 7 years, since the death of my parents, have been a father to my younger sister, Annabelle. I was fortunate that Annabelle is a lively girl, who shares my love for the outdoors, so the guardianship was no hardship. I soon realized that an older brother is no proper teacher for a young lady, and hired a governess for Annabelle, a Mrs. Pratt. My sister has a quick mind and a natural grace, and she blossomed under Mrs. Pratt�s tutelage. In addition to the Latin and Music which Mrs. Pratt taught, I also gave Annabelle books from my own library on Botany and Biology, books that I have found especially absorbing. Annabelle and I live at Harker Hall, where, now that she is near an age to enter into society, we shall hopefully be having many parties. |
