Alexander Halfpenny is 26 years of age, possessing a tall, strong figure and an elegant bearing. His visage is pleasant, yet something in it suggests at a slight stubborness, something about the strong chin and the decided set of his mouth. His eyes are hazel in colour and intelligent in countenance. His dark hair curls slightly over his collar and is always neat.
He is fond of the country and has let Willowford as a place in which to reside when he is not at his family home near London. His father, Mr. Jameson Halfpenny, is deceased, but his mother is still living in the family home with his two sisters, Anna and Marguerite. Mr. Halfpenny is possessed of about 20,000 a year as far as regards his fortune. As to character, he is active outdoors, enjoying the sports of shooting and hunting and riding, but he is also very studious, enjoying reading and an occasional dabble in politics. He enjoys freedom to the utmost and hates to feel tethered by obligations, which is why he sought out a country home in the first place. He is amiable and goodhearted, however, so long as he does not feel his freedom is being trod upon. |
