Activity 15 – NATURE DAY
The idea of having a day dedicated to something in particular is to make people specially aware of the subject. So why not nature? There are various fixed dates in the nature calendar, such as
Environment Day (5 June) or Earth Day (22 May), but unfortunately these do not fall at very convenient times in the school year. So we’re inviting you to plan a day that fits into your particular school calendar of events.
Action...
Decide on the date you want to hold Nature Day. This event must involve the entire school (like Sports Day), not a selection of classes. Moreover, it must be an Open Day to which you can invite parents, press, VIPs (mayor, Environment Department officials,Ministers etc)...
- Plan a programme of activites that will highlight one or more aspects of the environment. It’s good to have a central theme, because this way you will get your message across more clearly. Here are some ideas for your programme:
- a nature-oriented play at assembly or break
- a snack bar with (vegetarian?) food prepared by the
pupils/parents
- an exhibition on a focus subject
- a tree-planting event, if you have a garden or
nature area
- a competition of nature games
- Call BirdLife (well in advance) to book the DW co-ordinator to attend your activity.
- Take photos of your events and send them in with your Feedback Form
Points...
100-250 points Points will be awarded according to the level of commitment
