Activity 13 – CARING COMMUNITY
Dinja Wahda often draws on teachers and their pupils for its resources. This time, we’re going to try and rope in the community around the school. Conservation and environmental education cost money, but thankfully many businesses have started to understand this, and are often willing to help out. Giving a hand also brushes up their green image!
Here we exploit this idea by asking you to get the business community directly involved by sponsoring a Dinja Wahda activity.
Action...
Decide on the activities you want to try and get sponsored. Some activities in this Action Guide are suitable, such as :
- Let’s make Friends! - for prizes
- Wrapper Scrapper! - for prizes
- Let’s do the Tables!
- Nature Day!
- Out of Africa!
- Adopt a Tree!
- You may find other green things to do around the school that you may want sponsored, such as:
- greening school corridors with potted plants
- photos you need to take of DW action in your school
- a nature play with the costumes sponsored
- a special green prize for Prize Day (e.g.
outstanding environmental action)
- a section at a school bazaar selling donated goods
(proceeds for BirdLife’s next Dinja Wahda!)
- getting an advert for il-Huttafa magazine! (contact BirdLife office for this)
- Think of the commercial outlets in your area and who best to approach for what you have in mind. Some suggestions:
- school kids’ parents who run a business
- stationeries
- food companies, especially sellers of cereals,
snacks, fruit juices, sweets etc
- bookshops
- plant/garden shops
- When you approach a potential sponsor you should
- know what particular activity you have in mind
- ask for a specific amount of money/item
- offer publicity in return, e.g. green board, school magazine, BirdLife publications (contact BirdLife for this)
- Fill out copies of the Sponsorship Form, and send it in with your Feedback Form.
