Activity 1 – MEDIA ATTACK

Dinja Wahda is all about a new way of living in harmony with our environment. It’s all about attitude and action. And we want as many children and grown-ups as possible jumping board. With this activity you help us make our voice louder by using the most powerful voice in the country : the media !
Action
- Decide on your aim in using the media. You may want
to :
- Encourage other schools to copy your example in a
particular DW activity
- Publicise your school’s participation in DW
- React to animal cruelty incident reported in the
press
- Comment on an environmental problem in your area
- React to a positive environmental initiative,
national or international
- Decide on which media is your best outlet. Consider
these :
- Write features / letters to any of the local
newspapers
- Get Education Channel 22 to come over and film a
particular DW activity (see below for details)
- Ask a radio/tv station to interview the children
during/about a DW activity – children may go to the studio or bring the
interviewer to the school
- Get a photo and DW activity description in Eduforum,
the Education Division’s newsletter
- Get photos and your school’s participation in DW in
your local council magazine
- Send features and pictures to children oriented
publications, like Saghtar, Taghna t-Tfal etc
- Check out newspaper supplements, like the Circle etc
- Check out online newspapers
- Send us a photo of the interview or a copy of the
press / magazine cutting or printout (in case of online newspaper) together
with the Feedback Form
- Please do remember to give BirdLife a mention when
writing or speaking about DW. BirdLife needs the media just as much to get our
environmental message across. Thanks !
