Jessica Fletcher narrates her latest novel about three college students involved in plagiarism and murder. Music student Michael Prentice finds out that his professor has taken credit for one of his compositions. He confronts him, which results in a heated argument. Needless to say, the professor soon ends up dead, with Michael being the prime suspect. His two best friends, Chad Singer (a promising law student from the deep south) and Chad's girlfriend Jenny Coopersmith [Dinah] (a quirky would-be-social worker from New York) set out to prove Michael's innocence. Quite a few suspects are brought into the picture, making things more difficult for Chad to figure out. With Jenny's connections and Chad's intuition, the case soon gets solved and Michael is cleared of the charges against him. The killer: the professor's wife.
Cast includes Angela Lansbury, with guest stars Shaun Cassidy, Paul Clemens, Rene Auberjonois, Herb Edelman (who played Stan Zbornak on The Golden Girls, which Dinah appeared on), Karen Grassle, George Grizzard, Tom Hallick, Jennifer Holmes, Scott Jacoby.
