Just some of my ramblings.
Entry for August 18, 2008
Today I spent 2 1/2hrs with my diabetic doctor.  My A1C is 7.2, still needs to come down, but it's slowly getting there.  He looked over my blood tests I had done the last time and also the reports I took in to him today about my thyroid surgery and all the ultrasounds I had done.  He said blood work at this point would not show if the cancer had come back because of the missing right lobe and part of the center.  Something about it won't show an accurate reading or something like that.  I forgot especially after being there for so long and the good news he gave me.

He felt my throat in the thyroid area and couldn't feel anything other than my thyroid being enlarged.  So they decided to do an ultrasound right then and there.  He asked if the nodules looked odd did I want to go on with the needle biopsy or just schedule to have the rest of my thyroid removed.  I opted to have the rest removed.  Only because they would only be able to do a needle biopsy on one nodule and it could be one of the other three that might have the cancer in it and I would have to have the surgery anyways later on down the road especially with problems I would have.

Well when he did the ultrasound he went and got the main doctor to come and take a look himself.  It did show my thyroid is still enlarged, but all 4 nodules are gone.  They shrunk and disappeared.  YEAH!!!!!  This means less chances of the cancer coming back, which is the best news he could have given me today.  It didn't really hit me until he shook my hand and said congratulations.  While I was waiting on him to write up a script for me to have some blood work done and my next appointment, all I could do is sit there and say "THANK YOU GOD!" over and over again.

So for now on every 3 months I have to have a TSH level done.  It has to stay at a certain level and if it doesn't then he has to increase my medication.  It might get to a point where I might have to have the surgery to have the rest removed.  I go back on December 1st to have another ultrasound to make sure the nodules haven't come back and for more blood work.  He said we will keep an eye on it since there is a family history of thyroid problems and strong history of cancer going through my family.

I'm so excited right now.  After one blow after another lately and with everything going on, this is great news to hear.  I lost another 8lbs since my last visit too......Woo Hoo!
