| Cameron's RatHouse Rattery began after my husband Wes and I moved to Kalamazoo. We moved 25 rats here, including our beloved (recently deceased) Cameron. Oddly enough, we moved to Cameron St. and our new address was 2302--and we were both 23 in the year 2002! We coverted a very nice outdoor shed into a rat paradise--heated, A/C, cat furniture to climb on and ferret tubes on the walls. The rats live in super delux SuperPet multilevel ferret homes, and each group gets out for an hour minimum every day. As breeders, our aim is to produced beautiful, friendly, bold rats. A confident rat is a good pet. We encourage confidence in out rats in two ways--one, we breed for it and two, we condition for it. Meaning our rats get exposed to everything at a young age. They get out daily in their every changing RatHouse, and they even get to play outside if the weather is nice. Exposing rats to new things makes them smarter, happier, and more confident in their world. My rats are comfortable with new rats and humans, and our best rats are comfortable with travel and lots of attention. (Marceaux, Cameron, and Floyd all were part of a presentation in a 3rd grade classroom) Cameron, the rat that started it all, is the epitome of what we hope to produce personailty-wise. She was the most self-assured and joyful animals I've ever known. She came when you called her, but she was more than just a human plaything. She was an extremely ambitious rat, always exploring and adding to her stash. And she was a genius. She was very alert and aware of her surroundings. This is not a rat that ever hid under furniture or startled at loud noises. She had more important things to do than cower. She is missed, but her spirit lives on in everything we do here at Cameron's RatHouse Rattery. |
