October 21, 2005

Today is a beautiful fall Friday.  The weather today is warm and sunny, and it probably was at least 70 degrees fahrenheit at Florence today.  It's too bad the rest of October wasn't this nice, as I was sort of counting on it.  For the last few years October has had great weather, but I think this fall heralds a return to the norm.

I came out to the boat today to fill up some ill-drilled holes in the stern and repair some age-old gelcoat scratches.  I didn't accomplish either task.  I'm somewhat bummed because I don't know if there'll be another day this year warm enough for gelcoat or resin to cure.  Oh well, I'll just have to go with the flow.

I started on the holes in the stern but soon realized I wouldn't be able to fasten a backing to the holes on the port side due to not being able to reach them (See stern rail under Modifications for details).  So I decided I had to drill another hole in order to repair the others.  I went off in search of one of those screw-on round access hatch thingies, found one, and returned.  Warren, the owner of the Westlake Marina, let me borrow his 4"hole saw so making the new hole was a breeze.  After I got the access thingie installed, it was 4:00 p.m., so not really enough time for resin to cure before it got below 60 degrees fahrenheit.  So I relaxed, exchanged navy stories with Warren, and went to my in-laws house where my father-in-law grilled an awesome steak for me.  All in all it was a good day!
