First off I realize this is very much the case of one bad apple spoiling the bunch and it won't apply to most of you so just know I am not pointing at you, unless of course you are guilty. In which case, I don't know who is guilty so you only have to answer to yourself.
The Kane scene is pretty strong and most of the kids are very supportive and well-behaved. I thank those of you who are. What do I have to do with the scene you may ask? Well nothing really, but this comes from me as a music fan not as a member of any scene. The only music scene I belong to is the Music scene. In that sense we are all apart of it.
Anyways, The Elks Club here in Kane has been extremely generous, open-minded, and forgiving in the cases of letting shows happen there. Much appreciation goes out to the Elks, the bands, and the fans for making it all happen.
The problem is those kids who come to the shows and decide its "cool" and "anti-something or other" to start breaking stuff. This doesn't prove how "cool" or "punk" you are or how much you hate "authority". All it proves, is you sir are a jackass, and are going to ruin it for everyone.
The shows give you a chance to have soemthing to do, somewhere to go, and you can hang out with your friends and meet nerw friends from other towns. You can hear some really great music made by really great people so just enjoy it. Don't take it for granted that it will always be there, because sooner or later if kids still try to prove something a line will get crossed and it'll be gone. Think about it.
Please keep coming to shows and supporting the bands and celebrating music. Have fun, dance, sing, just don't break shit.
If my words aren't good enough maybe you'll listen to the words of someone who is more prominent in music, Anti-Flag (The article wasn't written by them, but the obviously support it whole-heartedly and echo the veiws)(Ed's Note: I mostly agree with this article, I feel it got a little too "punk pride" for me, btu years ago I would've been like fucking a man. I feel the MTV bashing was a little unnecesary but hey thats why we have the First Ammendment.). If you have Die For The Government go read the liner notes. For those of you who don't have it or don't want to dig it out I've reproduce them.
Thank You
