My Interests

Here are some of my favorite thingies... some of them have links to other pages, so be sure to visit those too!

Still under construction - keep checking back!

Animals - Undoubtedly the next best thing to human companions, animals have always been a big part of my life.  I've been a cat person for as long as I can remember, and I've also owned a vast array of pets, including parakeets, hamsters, rats, iguanas and fish.  I have yet to experience owning a dog of some sort, but I'm sure when the time comes (and I know it will) I'll enjoy them too.  When I was little I wanted to be a vet, but over the years I've realized that I wouldn't make a good one, since I can't stand to see an animal in pain or dying.  Even though I'm in a field of study that experiments extensively on animals, I refuse to put an animal in danger, so I've decided the best alternative is to stay away from research and just focus on DNA analysis, etc.  I know the real money lies in research, but in this case I have to let my morals win.

Food - Ever since I came to college, my appreciation for food has increased dramatically, and I've started to enjoy cooking more than I ever have, probably because I don't have my mommy to do it for me all the time anymore, hehe.  Though I'm not yet on the level of Emeril Lagasse, I enjoy making stir-fry and other Asian- and Mexican-style dishes.  And yes, Dom, that includes tacos.  When I'm at home with my parents, I enjoy watching Emeril Live with them, along with many other great shows on Food Network, so I've included a link to the website here.

Literature - I'm a big fan of poetry, my favorite works coming from 19th and 20th century writers including Edgar Allan Poe and Lord Byron.  I also enjoy short stories from Poe and Shelley, and have an extensive collection of mythologies and tales from Greek, Roman, and Asian cultures.  I'll be adding a link to a page reminicent of the old Trinity's Keep (if anyone recalls, that was my silly pseudo-spook page dedicated to my "dark" side) to link to some of these writers' fan pages, etc.

Movies - I like all kinds of movies, my favorite genres being action, comedy and science fiction.  Occasionally I enjoy a horror movie or two, but so many of them now-a-days suck, so I haven't seen too many lately.  My favorite actors include Keanu Reeves, Christian Bale, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci.

Music - My favorite music style has always been rock, whether alternative or heavy metal, and I also enjoy classical and island tunes from time to time.  I've even gotten into some rap lately, which is scary.

TV - What can I say?  TV is great.  When I want to unwind, I'm most likely to watch cartoons on Nickelodeon, and when I'm in an educational mood, I'll turn on the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet.  I also must have my wrestling fill each week, so I watch whatever WWE throws at me (see Wrestling, below).

Video Games - Being the only girl in a family of all boys, I was basically raised with video games, from the time of Atari and the original Nintendo Entertainment System.  So needless to say, I love video games.  I've followed the Legend of Zelda saga my entire life, and have within the last couple of years gotten into some PC games like Sim City.  I currently own a Nintendo Game Cube, and occasionally link up to Dominick's Game Boy Advance SP and play cooperatively, which is a lot of fun.

Wrestling - Possibly one of the most odd obsessions I've ever had, wrestling has become a big part of my life, besides consuming 4 hours of my TV-watching time each week.  Nonetheless, wrestling is a lot of fun to watch, and even more fun to do.  No, I haven't gone so far as to actually take wrestling classes, but it's fun to practice submission moves on Dominick (until of course he puts me in the Walls of Jericho, then it's all over).  Even though many people will argue that wrestling can't possibly be entertaining because it's "fake," why else do people watch TV?  Because it's true to life, and never scripted?  Sports entertainment is like a soap opera with athletes - the shows are scripted, and the acting isn't the best.  But that's why it's called entertainment.
