PB&J

I look back and see what coulda been
innocence looking out the picture frame
Remember when it was Barbie dolls, G.I. Joes,
mac&cheese, and the Bernstein Bears.
It went so fast; wasn't time to realize I'd
be on the outside looking in.
Trying hard to recapture that joy-that innocence.
that PB&J with a little milk.
It was hard & sometimes it was a can of corn.
It was lonely & sometimes it was just lil sis and me
...crying on the couch.
I look back and see what coulda been
unfulfilled promises lying in the dark
Remember when it was teddy bears,
legos, oreos, and twinkle little star.
It was gone before it really began
didn't even know it was there
Straining to recall the snuggles and finger-
paint, those Trix mornings with Mickey Mouse
fudge afternoons.
It was hard and sometimes it was just a cracked crayon.
It was lonely and sometimes it was just the back seat.

I look back

I look out

with a smile on my face

It's gonna be hard

It might be lonely
but
Its gonna be fun

Its gonna be Life.
