Formula Fun...
"Formula Fun" is a development of last semester's Aquaskimmer, even though it looks nothing like it. The brief that I wrote for myself for the development of Formula Fun was to create a marine race class, with engine power being 250hp or less. It had to be safe, and compete for popularity with other small racing classes, such as JetSkis, Formula 1 races etc. I wanted to ensure that the drivers of these crafts would have to be physically fit, have good co-ordination, balance and reaction times. This would make it very different to other race classes, where the driver/pilot are only involved in turning a wheel or pushing a throttle.
Original sketch of the aquaskimmer to reference to.
Two pivoting skis implemented in a race craft
Trying to get hydrofoils involved
A hand-glider control arrangement. The lower arrow indicates a pivot point.
Development of the above idea.
Orignal concept for the Formula One control
The "Chair of doom" was a quick thrill concept which would raise the driver above the water, the faster the craft goes. I couldn't come up with a way in the end to make it safe.
Safety adressed through adding a nose-cone, and handlebar improved.
First visual idea for the final look of Formula Fun.
Looking at the ergonomics of the craft with a 95% male. I purposely want to make it a really small craft, as it would make it easy to transport as well as launch/retrieve. The whole craft is only 2.6 metres long.
Some final sketches and renderings of the craft.
This foam model was made in 4 hours to assess the form in 3D. (1:7 scale)
Formula Fun - part 2
We have finished working on this project for now, but I will definatelly be keen on developing this privately into a working prototype! TOO MUCH FUN!!!
