COMMENTS on ISSUE SIX
Share your thoughts too! Here are comments on the comic before the guestbook got up and running. Evidently, I like the idea they're kinda like letters to a published comic, so here they are for all to read (with my replies when appropriate.)
 The McPiglet Speaks
Hello, hey, how long has this been online? I must have been doing thesis time. If you hadn't mentioned it last time, I wouldn't have known. Oh well. Okay, reading the issue. -argh! I was thinking of a story along the lines of stoplight colors just yesterday! And now I'm reading
about it. argh! (well, mine is more of a colors of teens and sex thing. Green=horny=go so yellow=scared=slowdown then red=angry=stop). Oh well
well, considering you are a PUBLISHED writer, I am at awe. Oh yes, everyone, Fero here has been published. Check his work out in the first issue of the Extreme Questor magazine (or something like that).
-misspelling of 'something' as 'someting' on page80.
OOpss.. better fix that someday.
-heh, I know about fetters since I roleplayed Wraith once :)
-nice intro so far
-oh so Gabe died by head trauma. Not ripped apart or anything gruesome. I'm almost disappointed since the set-up kinda looked 'under mysterious circumstances' to me.
Can't work as a secret society, if you don't know how to get rid of opponents without it raising the curiosity of others.
-ooooh, what are the signs in the Rich scuffle? I mean, the real signs, not the one people can make up about it.
-hehehe biblical references. cool!
:-)
-I don't get the 'Bambi wasn't seen' part
I believe it was in one of the earlier issues. It was mentioned that a manghuhula is invisible to the aswangs. Its in her blood.
-this is turning into a prose text with illustration, what with all the exposition. It's a technique, yeah. And the readers already know that Dyan is bad so, I dunno, some of the surprise/mystery is lost?
More to be revealed on this, that's for sure.
-Dyan might be an aswang that looks like a man? What's the definition of aswang again?
As hinted in the first issue, aswangs do look human, but either reveal their trueselves when they desire, or.. in the case of our unnamed stranger, can be seen only by those who know how to pierce their disguise.
-why the Bambi upturned 'smile' look in the last panels of 'Gabe didn't reply' page?
Bitter sweet pain of knowing Gabe is not dead, but knowing he isn't human either.
-what does the symbol A mean again? Antonio? Did I miss the explanation already?
Well, the letter A was just to suggest they were using a board with letters.
-foot sweep! Can't see Bambi! Coolness! :D
-Rich's hand on the 'that was unexpected' page looks
weird. It's his right hand turned outward?
It how I raised my hand when a dog attacked. Thought it instinctually appropriate.
-btw, I relooked at the Dyan 'where's bambi' page. Slightly confused me since, yes, I thought RICH was the one who said that since the word balloon is in his panel and not Dyan's. I know the captions said that
it was Dyan who didn't see but I followed the picture first. Guess I missed the arrow thingy on the word balloon since it sorta curved with Rich's shirt.
That's why I was confused with it earlier.
Ah. Its okay. You're forgiven. :-)
-hehehe, this was the page I saw in the preview you gave me :P
Yeah, let me read comics for free, and I give people previews of future issues.
-"Can't you push him off you, Rich?" "His tongue has barbs." uh, weird dialogue to me. But who am I to talk?
Well, it was a weird scenario.
-eh, wha? Black ops operation guy with binoculars? I noticed some bit of computer on the roofs. Nice detail on the trees and posts.
WHAT? COMPUTERS ON ROOFS? Acutally, this was the reappearance of the villain first glimpsed in the first comic. He was not intended to be a "Black Ops" guy. Damn, knew I should have stuck to my original panel where the guy had no binoculars and merely keen vision.
Okies, more concrete stuff happened! Yayers! Story moving forward (at least for me). What happened to the lights in the 'footsweep' pages? Weren't they doing the spirit of the glass in the dark? How could
they turn on the lights if they had their hands on the glass? sorry, nitty picky! :P
Caught me there! actually, this can be fixed by adding a word balloon just before the sweep with Dyan saying, "Rich! The lights went on! Oh shit, it is a ghost!"Heheheheh!
Well, this is a cooler ish for me. The black border, negative space, splash pages exposition by Bambi is pretty cool (which continues from last issue's narration). But with the set up, I was slightly pulled down by the Dyan monster since, I dunno, I thought he'd be scarier. He only had a
tongue attack; not enough morph. Still, it's cool. And Gabe is still alive? So who's the body?
More on Dyan soon, promise. As to the body, well, Gabe isn't really walking around yet, is he.. Whoops! Gotta go cuz I'm going to watch something. Cooler ish since things are moving faster and there's
a purpose now. Next time then! K!
Fero
And as always, THANK YOU! Hearing comments from readers simply shows me I am entertaining people. I do hope you stick around for the many future issues to come.
 nerve-hitting!
Oooohhh, that hit a nerve in me. Good fun.
Hector Syquia (Rico)
I find myself wondering what exactly you meant. What part in the book I wonder. :-)
 summarized email
Hey Tobie
great stuff...nice photoshop work too! nice play with
the shadows. Well, the art is pretty simple, but give yourself some
credit. there's composition, nice layout, good use of
shadows..and right area where the shadow is case,
consistent face. hell, when I draw, one face look
totoally different from the second page! haha!
Erik
thank you.
i will admit the art ain't anything that good,
but i'm proud of my work nontheless. As to my composition, that is from my film background. And theater. Wish I could draw what I imagine though.Or had the time to make the television series of DILIMAN which was what it was originally conceived to be.
>>> nice layout,
No way.. really?
>> good use of shadows..and right area where the shadow is case,
Bull. :-) I cheat with shadows. Occasionally, i hit the right spot.
But more often I just cheat. :-)
>>> consistent face. hell, when I draw, one face look
>>> totoally different from the second page! haha!
uh, I always had trouble with that. Actually, I have trouble with
consistency as a whole. My art style goes in flux at times, shifting from
very surreal to very cartoony, then on occasion, a hit of anime comes and
goes. But hey, if you can tell who's who, then great!
:-)
 second volley of email
haha, pareho tayo! frustrated artist din kasi ako....but my job's a graphic artist! weird! yup, me bobo din sa shadows! ang alam ko lang if you have
somebody standing on a wall, I know how to draw the shadow cast...but that's about it! haha! proportion is another problem! Staring at a blank page is the hardest thing to do! haha!
BTW, what program did you use to created your webpage?
I take it you drew everything first then scanned and then edit all the text and colors in the computer right?
I loathe anatomy quite frankly. But I know, I know, drawing right anatomy really helps tell the story. Either that or become as creative as other artist out there who use mixed media and the like. As to my webpage, each page (pretty much) is drawn by hand, then scanned. Photoshop is used to adjust the black and white levels to stark levels. At times, I use black india ink diluted with water to make gray tones. On other times, I just use photoshop as well. Originally, I planned to use Adobe Illustrator for word balloons and the like, but I realised it slowed me down too much. As to the webpage itself, I type hard code. I'm a notepad programmer. Never touched Dreamweaver and the like. Once more, THANK YOU for writing in!
