COMMENTS on ISSUE EIGHT
 Another letter from McPiglet!
Hello Tobie,
Ish 8 - yay title! Really like the fact that she's invisible to the bad guys. I forgot the reason why but I rather like it :) Have to check again in ish 6
for the reason.
Its her Manananggal Blood. In this book, Manananggals are invisible to the creatures of the dark.
-oooh! Scary small troll beastie and an eyeball thingy! who's that on the floor? Rich? Yay flashback!
Poor ole Rich...
-GATES OF HECK! It's a double page spread! I hope the next page is a complete side by side version.... btw, Tikbalang looks cool! What's with the Santa looking elf looking monster?
Am finding it really nice you are actually WRITING this letter as you check each page. heheheh and forgive me for the Santa-looking elf. Kinda imagined a duwende might have fun with the Santa myth.
-SHADES OF HADES! Triple page spread? I'm not so sure this time. Hey, is that Zuma with the snakes? Teehee! Cool that the girl is STANDING RIGHT BESIDE HIM! Life flashing right before his eyes, huh?
Triple page spread, yup. Heheheh I have to admit I really liked making this part of the book.
-btw, I'm glad we're only flashing back to the immediate how and what happened instead of Rich's life's story. Sorry but that's just me.
Uh.. no comment.
- Shatter! Growl! Crash! hehehehe :D Nice sfx lettering.
-AAAAARGH!!!!!!!!! It IS a Rich childhood life's story flashback thingy!!!!!
(hiding beneath a lamp cover.) sorry.
-btw, Voltes Z? hehehehe Then why the V sign? It'd be cool if it was a stylized Z from a V :)
My childhood had Voltes Five and they used a V to represent the number 5. I don't know why its Voltes Z now, frankly.
-ARGH! The tikbalang stepped on his stomach? Yikes! Ooooh he's also computer colored. So it's a split storytelling now, is it? Extremely neat but it would look weird if the pages are side by side together. (lefthand page is the attack, righthand page is the lifestory) Unless the border separating the two pages is done in a way so it looks like double page spreads. That'd be cool.
Hmm... will take a look into your suggestion. Borders eh...
-btw, Bambi's face doesn't seem too consistant.
Guilty as charged. Be bad with consistency. Am learning though. I'd like to think Rich is starting to look pretty uniform regardless of angle.
-great. He was chased by a mananaggal when he was young and you didn't explain how he got away!!! How'd he get away?!?!?!?!? :)
Story for another day! :-) Oh and this part was based on a real-life story. Not mine though.
-LOL! Of course the multiple-eyed monster could see Bambi... except he can't! Silly! The 'Babae ba yan?' 'Medyo po' exchange was hilarious! hehehe :P BTW, sorry but what's pilemon? Oh and tikbalang in the
shadows looks great. Will you be having the Tagalog translated?
Pilemon is the name of the Tikbalang, hence Rich's threat that the manghuhula can now find him no matter where he hides. As to the eye-monster, the poor think thought Dyan was the manghuhula. Then again, "medyo babae nga naman si Dyan" hehehe. All Tagalog portions will be translated into english in the transcription.
- tikbalang's name is Pilemon? Tikbalang looks weird now this time. What's with the shadow behind him? Almost looks like a regular man with the tikbalang head pasted on it. Oooh computer effects again!
The Tikbalang is capable of altering his very own shadow. His ability to cause people to get lost and confused stems from his control of the shadows.
-he had a tattoo? Yikes! I never noticed. Hey! Astroboy is neat but Professor Elephant is even better! hehehehe And that's Boba Fett right? :P Um, why does the grandma approve when she tried to remove it before?
Yes, the tattoo was a small detail ever present but never noticed. As to the cameos, well, what can I say, my 80s days showed up. And as to grandma's changing views, maybe next issue will solve that riddle.
-btw, where the heck is the mananaggal? Oh great, I just noticed his cheeks in the mirror. Sheesh.
Cheeks!
-btw again, it's sorta bad to say but if Rich really is having his life flash before his eyes, then he really should die this time or else it would be a
deathcheat trick. (y'know, those ending's where they say 'he's dead!' but in the next issue you find that he's really not. It cheapens the effect. I was sorta glad when Gabe died when he did.)
Well, we aren't getting his life are we? heheh. Just a few key recollections. :-) Seriously though, dying can be different from actually ending up dead.
-Ooooh nuts! It's the last third of the triple page spread! Nice to see it even though it's a recycled page.
Got a bigger spread waiting to be unveiled. No word on when though. :-)
-btw again, why isn't anybody making a fuss about Dyan? On Rich is on the floor.
The eye-monster actually was the one who made a fuss about Dyan. Hmm.. better rethink that page to make it obvious it was Dyan the thing pointed at. I thought the lines, "Babae Ba Yan?" "Medyo po" was suffice.
-Yay mananaggal! I guess that's why the sidestory is needed, to make her a sympathetic character and to explain her change on heart. But who's the new person?!? And more recycled art.
The new person... is... well... uh, didn't I give a clue already what the next issue might resolve?
-and yeah, what DID she mean by that? That's pretty cool.
-AND it's over! On a darned cliffhanger too! Darn!
Just when it was getting interesting :)
Glad to know it is getting interesting. :-) Heard I developed the plot a tad too slow.
Well, I'm not sure which I'm more worried about. Rich dying for real, resulting in only Bambi and maybe the mananaggal and the new person left (btw, I think that the mananaggal's real name will be important
later for her to return to normal) OR Rich not dying, so it's sort of a death cheat (but maybe he just thought that his life was flashing before his eyes.
heheheh). BTW again, there wasn't enough of his past revealed (I wanted the 'chased by a mananaggal' story! Also his grandmother and the people who helped her during the ritual). It may seem contradictory when I gwumble (mild form of grumbling) about having someone else's lifestory thrust at me but if it has to be done, I want the juicy stuff! :P Oh oh and the
pickle Bambi is in is great!
(Noting down all points to keep in consideration. Hmm... Kill Rich or not, just make sure the manananggal chase is told someday. Got it.)
Sorry if it seems that I'm looking for the action and suspense stuff, but, right now, I'm having to delve into mushy mush stuff and it's corroding me... Gak! Luv suks! Sorry for the biased views! Oh and the monsters look cool :D
Wait till you see my other monsters. The ones intended to look gross. :-)
K!
Fero
I am definitely going to add you into the book. After this much devotion to my series, I have to at least return the appreciation somehow. Just email me if you want to be an extra, a salamangkero or a monster. Thank you for being such a great fan and supporter of the book, Fero!
