Ok so it's been a while since, but being new at this, I didn't know why I couldnt access any of my pages. I fixed the problem, after 7 months. I hope no one missed me too much. Big news, I am now a full-fledged pharmacist and have been for like 6 months, it's cool and the money is sweet, and my first prescription actually WAS for amoxicillin, I'll post it once I figure out how to block out the names, something about patient confidentiality. Can you believe I'm already sick of working where I do. Tiny bit of advice: career longevity is inversely proportionnal to the number of welfare patients you see (there's an equation they don't show you in class). And a shout out to the BC pharmacists, way to go on the Morning After pill stuff, I have always been a big supporter of the pharmacist's right to prescribe, just don't ruin it for the rest of us:-)
Still no girlfriend, come on ladies, I make the big bucks now!
Peace be with you, my children.

After almost a month away from my web page chores, I return to my endless fans. Not much to report in the news department but I did find a nice article about the pharmacist shortage (sorry the link was dead). Good reading. Estimated date of the end of my residency has been determined to be August 20. After which I'm off to Europe for 2 weeks. My first official day as a pharmacist will be September 11. I'm offering 2-1 odds that the first prescription I fill will be for amoxicillin, let's see Vegas beat those odds!

Patients, especially middle aged women, are quite DUMB. We go to university to learn how to discriminate scientific studies and make learned judgements on treatments for those same patients. I tried to explain to one of my patients, who had seen a commercial for that apple vinegar crap, that using clinical judgement, it's attributes were not as claimed and told her how the weight loss occured. She stared at me blankly the whole time. Once I finished: "So when do you get it and how much?". So, in my mind, she would rather believe a TV commercial over her pharmacist... This leads me to conclude that instead of preventing patients from buying useless natural products, I would make SURE they pay exhorbitant prices for them and let them conclude for themselves that they wasted their money, all the while turning a nifty profit AND having "I told you so" power over all these patients!! A win-win situation.
Conclusion: YOUR PHARMACIST KNOWS BEST!
Cool Pharmacy thing I did today: Took the day off and played some basketball, all work and no play...
Happy News of the Day: My dream girl is going to Scotland to pursue a potential career in marine biology. I'm gonna miss ya!! Don't let those whales get too uppity!!
Hours of work left till I get my license: 471

After having received dozens of questions concerning apple cider vinegar and it's miraculous weight loss properties, I decided to do my own research and here is what I found...
All weight loss you may experience while using this product is due merely to the osmotic diarrhea it causes, not to mention the potential for GI upset due to it's acidity. I'd advise my patients against it's use, unless of course they need a natural alternative to Senekot to treat their constipation, but that's a rant in and of itself...
Cool pharmacy thing I did today: It was Sunday, all I did was stand around and watch my bank account grow.
Mistake of the Day: Not mine, but I got stiffed for 6 hours on my paycheck, the error was rectified without bloodshed.

After my grandma's blood glucose was consistently above 10, I decided to call her doc and suggest we start her on the new diabetes pill, AvandiaMD (rosiglitazone). This new drug helps combat insulin resistance. It has very few side effects except for upper respiratory tract infections (huh?...Dont ask me...), it seems easier to tolerate than metformin gastrointestinally (it could be a word). It should be started at 4mg qd for 12 weeks and then increased to 4mg bid or 8mg qd, simple enough. ALT levels should be checked before starting therapy and sporadically during. Too bad this doesnt count towards continuing education credit...
Cool pharmacy thing I did today: One of my patients had a name so long, it didnt all fit on his Medicare card!
Mistake of the day: Sorry none to report, but I did forget to set my alarm and was 15 minutes late for work...

Today I finished my 47th hour of my final residency, meaning I have 553 hours to go before I get my license. My job is quite stressless and I'm not really learning much but the money is good and there really isn't anything good on TV during the day anyway. We're having a diabetes clinic day on May 24th at my pharmacy (Essaim 9515 Gouin W), so if you or someone you love has diabetes come on over so I'll have something to do.
Cool pharmacy thing I did today: I destroyed morphine from Italy AND Germany.
Mistake of the day: I gave someone Flovent instead of Flonase, oops:-)
