| Welcome
to Digital Bumper alternative home at Geocities |
Digital Bumper is a website that covers the world of
Visual Pinball. Visual Pinball is an exciting software, a pinball editor, that allow
us to create our own virtual pinball machines on our computers. Visual Pinball was created
by Randy Davis. Besides providing news and resources for the VP community, Digital Bumper
also develops original tables with Visual Pinball. For more information and news, visit

The Official Digital Bumper website
So, you might be wondering, this is not the official Digital Bumper website ? No, I set up
this alternative location at Geocities because some people complained about not being able
to download files from the official site. This is a very small version of the site.
Currently I have three games available for download. Here's a little description of each
one of these games:
Eight Ball Pool is heavily based on Bally's Eight Ball.
Released in 1977, Eight Ball was the best selling game of its time. Although I've
never played the game, I've read a little about it and I always liked the layout of the
playfield. Eight Ball was one of the first Solid State games from Bally but I decided to
make Eight Ball Pool an electro-mechanical pinball machine.
To simulate a electro-mechanical pinball I changed the flipper speed and bumper strength
to make the game a little bit slower. All the sounds are electro-mechanical.
This is a beta version, but I think the game is very playable.
THE RULES
-Making all solid balls 1 thru 7 in any order lights the eight ball at the black target.
-Hitting the eight ball will light Extra Ball at the red target.
-Then you have to make the striped balls 9 thru 15 in any order to light the eight ball
again.
-Hitting the eight ball target this time will light Special at the red target.
-The right loop (called Bank Shot) awards the following:
100 points, 300 points, 1000 points, Kick Back, Spot Ball and Double Bonus.
-The eight ball can only be spotted hitting the eight ball target.

In Bomb Squad you play against the clock, you have to
defuse bombs before time runs out. There is a clock on the playfield so you can see the
time remaining. Take a look a the screenshot:
This is an early beta version, there's practically no art
on the playfield but as soon as I finish the rules and correct the bugs I'll try to make
it look better. I tried to give the game an early eighties feel, to make it simple but
fun.
THE RULES
As a member of a Bomb Squad Team your task is to deactivate bombs. In Bomb Squad Pinball
you acomplish this "cutting" the green, blue and red wires in any order. To
deactivate the bomb you have to shoot the center target. At the beginning of the game you
are given 60 seconds to cut the wires and 30 seconds to shoot the center target. There are
five missions to play. After you complete the fifth mission you start the first mission
again but with less time on the clock. Each hit to the bumpers add one second to the
clock. The center target, when not lit, adds seven seconds to the clock.
Game is over after you played your five balls or if time runs out. Score is based on how
fast you finish the missions.

Since VP simulates pinballs games which have many
mechanical parts, I believe we can simulate some other types of games that also use
mechanical parts. To test my theory I built a rifle game in VP. This is a prototype. A
small version of this game will be featured as a mini game in my next pinball table.
The game is very simple and doesn't have too much depth
(although things start to get a little bit more interesting after the 30th hit.) It is
intented as a test and to show that we can built other types of games with VP. I have some
ideas to make the game more interesting (allow the the gun to move up and down, insert
moving targets, bonus stage) but I don't know how much further I'll go in the developing
of this game since it's not pinball related and it's not my priority, it'll depend on how
much feedback I have. Anyway the file its just 210KB, I tried to keep it very small.
Download it and send your comments.
HOW TO PLAY:
Press S to start a game.
FLIPPER KEYS move gun.
SPACE fires.
Game starts to get a little bit more interesting after the 30th hit. One hundred hits is a
very good score. Game ends if you miss ten shots.

Known issue: There's just one gun but it casts five shadows on the playfield. This is a
problem with the IsDropped property which wasn't intended to be used with this kind of
animation. I think when we have the ability to make walls invisible, animation would be
easier to implement.
