Miner Drowns After Attending Funeral Of Kin
A few hours after attending the funeral of his
brother-in-law who drowned in Watts Bar Lake
Thursday, a 23-year-old Briceville miner drowned in a mining lake
near his home.
Condy Everett Burris is the man who apparently suffered
an attack and fell into the water. Witnesses
reported he appeared to topple into the lake while standing
on the bank. They said he made no outcry nor did he struggle. He sank
immediately, they added.
Last Thursday, Edward Wilson, 38, Lejunior, KY miner,
whose wife was a sister of Burris, lost his life
when he became entangled in a fishing line near
Kingston.
Wilson was visiting his parents Rev and Mrs John Wilson
of Briceville, while on vacation.
Roane County Sheriff Marvin Stonecipher said Wilson swarm
20 feet out to untangle a line which had caught on
under-brush. Watching from the shore was his wife
and their 13-year-old daughter and a
brother, Henry, with the brother's wife and three
children. The brother
could not swim but ran for help.
Roane County officers, with grappling hooks, recovered
the body. They found the fish line tangled around
Wilson arms and legs.
Burris is survived by his father and step-mother Mr and
Mrs John Burris of Briceville, two brothers, Alvin
of Lake City and Ben of Briceville, three sisters,
Mrs Ora Lee Roysden of Rockford, Mrs Nora Wilson and Mrs Elsie Phillips
of Briceville.
Wilson leaves his wife and daughter, parents, Rev and
Mrs. John Wilson of Briceville, four brothers,
Henry, Woodward, and Urshey, all of Briceville and
Robert of Lejunior, two sisters Mrs Flim and Mrs Dewey Waggoner of
Briceville.
