Ex-Miner At Beech Grove Dies At 94
Curtis Isabell, 94, of Walden Drive, Lake City,
who had 93 descendants, died last Thursday at Lake City Hospital of
complications of age. A retired old miner, he was formerly employed at
Beech Grove mines and was a member of the United Mine Workers. He was a member
and deacon at West Side Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Odd
Fellows Lodge, and he enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. Isabell was a
native of Lake City and the son of the late Beecham and Minnie Turner Isabell.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ida Harom Isabell, three sons, Robert P.
Isabell of Lake City, John L. and James Paul Isabell of Detroit, four
daughters, Mrs. Nella Mae Reynolds, Mrs. Georgia Fritts and Mrs. Sylvia Mowery
of Lake City and Mrs. Geraldine Hamm of Alexandria, Va., a half-sister, Mrs.
Bertha Lindsay of Lake City, 36 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at West Side
Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Howard, the Rev. Howard Robbins and the
Rev. L. B. Huskey officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove. (donated by Susie
