Death Of W.R. Dagley
William R. Dagley was born May 8th,1868, died April 30th, 1931 age 62 years, 11 months and 22 days. At a young age he gave his life into the hands of him who doeth all things well and united with Poplar Creek,later removing his membership to Black Oak church where he remained an active member until death. He joined in holy wedlock to Rebecca Weaver August 15th 1889 and to this couple God gave 9 children as follows: Mrs. R.D. Wallace, Clinton, Tenn, Everette Dagley, Clinton,Tenn ,Bonnie Dagley Clinton, Tenn., Mrs. Charlie Hooks Marloe, Tenn., Mrs. Hillon Johnson, Chaska, Tenn., Mrs. Elmer King Clinton, Tenn., Anna Lou Dagley Clinton, Tenn., and Samuel Dagley who died in infancy. On April 25th 1927 his wife and companion was called by God to answer the roll of those who are to dwell eternally with Him. Again on January 3rd 1929 he was married to Mrs. Dora Bennett. Mr. Dagley lived close to his God and let Him lead him always. He spent the biggest part of his life in Anderson County. Those of the immediate family who are to mourn their loss are his wife, one son, seven daughters, one brother, and five sisters, and sixteen grandchildren. His entire family expressed their faith in Him who doeth all things for the best and are willing to willing to be reconciled to God's way of calling those who He Loves.
Funeral services were held at Black Oak Baptist Church Saturday May 3, 1931, conducted by Rev. E. L. Wilson, Rev. George Demarcus. Odd Fellows of Clinton and Dutch Valley had charge of the services at the grave. (donated by Susie Bullock [email protected] )

Mrs. Arminda Daugherty,77,died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cleo Martin, Clinton Rt.4,after a long illness. She is survived by four daughter, Mrs. Martin,Mrs.Mary Ola Brummitt, Mrs. Emma Graham, all of Clinton, and Mrs. Oma Wilson of Hammond, Ind. four brothers, Grance Bunch of Petros, Isaac Bunch of Florida, and Walter and Ethel of Devonia, three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Sievers of Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Elizabeth Daugherty of  Petros, and Mrs. Linda Hensley of Devonia,11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Black Oak Church with the Rev. Mrs. Flossie Daugherty, 57, of Oliver Springs, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Hospital. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Daughtery is survived by her husband, Columbus L. Daugherty, two daughters, Mrs. Letha Fritts of Morrow, Ga., and Mrs. Linnie Bunch of Devonia, a son, Carl Daugherty of College Park, Ga., two brothers, Lonzie Seiber of Devonia, and Rossie Seiber of Petros, three sisters, Mrs. Stella Bunch of Clinton, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Phillips and the Rev. Dana Ward officiating. Burial will be in New Petros Cemetery. Mrs. Nancy Daugherty, 85, wife of the late Ramsey Daugherty of Briceville, died Monday afternoon at the home of her son, Lige in Briceville. Mrs. Daugherty is survived by five sons, the Rev. Daugherty of Baxter, Ky., Lon Daugherty of Detroit, Mich., Lige Daugherty of Briceville and Carl Daugherty of Caryville Rt.1, one daughter, Mrs. Faye Cook of Briceville, one brother, Henry Wilson of Briceville, two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Byrge of Jacksboro Rt.1, and Mrs. Hannah Phillips of Welch, W. Va. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Laurel Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tackett and the Rev. Edwin Phillips officiated. Burial was to be in Circle Cemetery in Briceville. Former New River Resident, Naomi Brown Daugherty died Saturday, Sept. 15, at Southwest General Hospital in
Cleveland, Ohio. She was 78.She was the daughter of the late Joe and Belle Lively Brown and was preceded in death by her husband Charles D. Daugherty in 1970. She was a member of the Indian Bluff Baptist Church and a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Harness and Sunday May Montgomery, both of Cleveland, Ohio, two sons, James L. Daughtery of Lewisville, Ohio and Charles E. Daugherty of Cleveland, Ohio, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept 20 at the Indian Bluff Baptist Church. The Rev. Edwin Phillips and  the Rev. Benny Braden will officiate. Died on Monday, Dec 8, 1902, Mr. Armstead Dew, aged 78 years. Mr. Dew was born in Anderson County, TN. He came to Washington last September, settling in Mohler. He was a carpenter by trade and is survived by a wife and 12 children. His death was caused by asthma. The funeral took place in the Baptist Church here on Tuesday, Rev A. A. Powers officiating. Dew, Eliza J.,  (Mrs. Armstead)
Mrs. E. J. Dew, better known as "Grandma" Dew, passed away at her home in Spokane, WA, Friday evening, Nov 10, 1921. Grandma was born in Anderson County, TN, Sept 24, 1849. At the age of 12 years she was converted and joined the Baptist church at Zion Hill, TN. In 1872 she was united in marriage to  Armstead Dew and to this union were born 6 children including: Mrs. Lotta Masters, Joe Dew, S. L. Dew, and C. B. Dew, all of Spokane, and Mrs. Levica Morgan and Mary M. Watson of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. These six
and a brother, E. E. Hammock of Spokane, were all at her bedside when she passed away. At the time of her death Grandma Dew was a member of the Union Park Baptist Church of Spokane and the funeral services were held at that church by Rev J. N. Nelson on Nov 12. The body was taken to Harrington where it was laid to rest beside that of her husband who preceded her in death, having passed away Dec 8, 1902. The Rev E. C. Saturday's Spokane Chronicle carries in its death column, the notice of the death of Sterling L. Dew, at 61 years of age. Mr. Dew was a former Harrington resident, and in the Mar 15, 1915 Citizen appeared the item of a surprise party given Mr. & Mrs. S. L. Dew on their 8th wedding anniversary on Feb 27. Mr. Dew died at his home in Spokane. Surviving him are his wife, Daisy L Dew, one daughter, Miss Frances G. Dew; two brothers, Joe and Dick Dew; 3 sisters, Mrs. Vica Morgan, Mrs. Mildred Watson and Mrs. Lottie masters. Funeral services were Wednesday from the Thornhill-Carey Funeral
Home. Cremation followed. (Citizen-29 March 1940)

Disney of Beech Grove, six children, W. B. and G. W. Disney of Clinton, Leon Disney and Mrs. Geo Rector of Coal Creek, Mrs. Harve Brown of Briceville and E. K Disney of Sunmount ,N.Y, one brother, F. Mrs. Allie Massengill Dunaway, 79, mother of Mrs. Goldman ( Lillian) Carroll of 124 Cherokee Ave., South Clinton, died at her daughter's home Saturday after a long illness. She had been in failing health with a heart condition and diabetes for several years and sustained a stroke, her second, a week before her death. She was a homemaker and the wife of Wesley L. Dunaway, a retired farmer who died in 1973.Mrs. Dunaway was a native of Anderson County and resided with her husband in what is now Oak Ridge area. She resided in west Knox County from early 1940's until moving to her daughter's home in 1972.She was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended a Knox County Baptist church. She enjoyed needlecraft and flower gardening. Besides Mrs. Carroll, she leaves six other daughters, Mrs. Artie Smith of Lenoir City, Mrs. Helen Garrett of Bristol, Mrs. Jean Hutton of Piney Flats, Mrs. Georgia Dunaway of Knoxville, Mrs. Allie Lee Gilreath of Rockwood and Mrs. Shirley Brooks of Beckley, W. Va.,12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Smith of Lake City and Mrs. Sethie Cooper of St. Petersburg, Fla. Aarone Duncan, 53, of Frost Bottom community, Oliver Springs Rt.2,died at 1:30 a. m Tuesday at Oak Ridge Hospital. He was a retired miner and a member of Big Mountain Baptist Church near Frost Bottom. A native of the community, he was the son of the late John Duncan and Mrs. Melinda Duncan, who survivors. Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Tackett Duncan, a daughter, Miss. Darlene Duncan of Oliver Springs Rt.2, two sons, Raymond of Harriman Rt.2, and John Lee Duncan of Oliver Springs Rt.2, three stepdaughters, Mrs. Bob (Brenda) Jenkins and Mrs. James (Linda) Leach of Lake City, Mrs. John (Betty) Davis of Fort. A retired Union Carbide Nuclear Divison Guard, Alvin Pearson Dunlap,73,of West Tri-County Boulevard, Oliver Springs, died Sunday at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after an extended illness. Mr. Dunlap was employed in the plant support and protection division of the K-25 Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant from Sept. 30,1944 until April 30,1974.Before going to work in Oak Ridge, he had been
employed as a coal miner. He was a native of Crab Orchard. His parents were the late Thomas and Betty Dunlap,
and the family had lived in Windrock for many years. He had lived in Oliver Springs since 1945.He was a member
of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No.28 in Kingston and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association
(TLBOA). Mr. Dunlap was affilliated with the Baptist church. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing softball for the
Oak Ridge leagues. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Viola Roberts Dunlap, two daughters and son-in-law,
Teresa and Robby Edwards of Oliver Springs, and Delores Jackson of Coalfield, two sons and daughters-in-law
 Joe and Kathy Dunlap of Clinton, and the Rev. Tom and Judith Dunlap of Virginia Beach, Va., one brother,
 John Henry Dunlap of Lenoir, N.C., one sister, Pauline Sachleben of Crossville, nine grandchildren, and
 two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday night at the Sharp Funeral Home Chapel with
 the Rev. Tom Dunlap and the Rev. Garvan Walls Jr. officiating. A graveside services was held Tuesday
 morning at Oliver Springs Cemetery.

Daisy Viola "Granny" Dunlap, age 86, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Morgan County. She lived most of her life in Oliver Springs before moving to Coalfield in declining health to live with her daughter, Deloris Patterson. She was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church. She was also the owner and operator of the Blue J Drive-in of Oliver Springs for over 15 years. Granny loved visits from family and friends, especially Pastor Walls. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin P. Dunlap; son, Joe D. Dunlap; daughter, Callie J. Dunlap; parents, Joe Ernest and Mary Katherine Lively Roberts; brother, Charlie Roberts; and sister, Pearl Breeden. Survivors include his son, the Rev. Thomas Dunlap and wife, Judith of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughters, Teresa Kaufman and husband, Vern of Murfreesboro, Delores Patterson of Coalfield; grandchildren, Joe Dunlap and wife, Gail, Sheila Dunlap, Angela Smith, Tommy Mullins, Kimberly Bell and husband, Tim, Simmy Mullins and wife, Kanya, Chastity Bowling and husband, Ian, Leah Edwards, and Robby Edwards; 16 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy Dunlap Brooks of Coalfield; and a host of extended family members and friends. Joe D. "J.D." Dunlap, 61, of Clinton, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Mr. Dunlap retired in 1993 from the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was born in Anderson County on Aug. 8, 1937. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Dunlap enjoyed cooking and gardening, his family said. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kathy Dunlap; his son, Joe Dunlap and his wife, Gail, of Sharpsburg, Ga.; his daughter, Sheila Dunlap of Destin, Fla.; his mother, Viola Dunlap of Oliver Springs; his brother, the Rev. Thomas Dunlap and his wife, Judith, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two sisters, Teresa Edwards of Oliver Springs and Delores Patterson and her husband, Gary, of Coalfield. Mr. Dunlap is also survived by his mother-in-law, Georgia Moody of Clinton; his brother-in-law, William Moody of Knoxville; and by four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His father, Alvin P. Dunlap, and another sister, Callie J. Dunlap, died earlier. The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, May 24, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Timothy Bell and the Rev. Thomas Dunlap officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. (donated by Susie Bullock [email protected] )
