Radio Shack Sound Effects Generator- owned from 2001? to present, bought for $5

I got this on another trip to the Rat Shack warehouse outlet (See Concertmate 690). Found it and a strobe light, both apparently discontinued, for $5 each.

There's a blue keypad that can be used to select sounds, or they can be all played by pressing the "demo" button. Basically it's like an 8-bit sound effects record.

I suppose it was intended to be used for sound effects in home movies or something like that, but I really don't see why anyone would ever use it. The sounds are stupid and the quality is pretty horrible.

Inside it's got a Motorola 6802 and a custom chip of sounds. There's a DAC08 to play back, and a few more logic chips, amplifier, etc.

As far as circuit bending goes, I haven't explored it fully, but shorting out the pins of the DAC give some brutal distortion. Other bends mostly play noisy stuff and play the samples at very low rates.

soundeffectgenerator-1- this demo shows the nasty digital sounds that it can make when properly abused. There's also another one here.
