Syllabus for Spanish V, AP Language and AP Literature
School Year 2003-04


Course Description:
Spanish AP is an advanced level program that is conducted in Spanish.This class is designed for the student who has mastered the fundamentals of the Spanish language and is ready to apply his or her ability in a wide variety of subject areas.  By the end of this course, students will complete a comprehensive study of the Spanish language by strengthening and incorporating Spanish listening, writting, reading, and conversational skills as well as  an extensive study of Ibero and Latin American literature.  A reading selection of literary works in poetry, novels, essays and drama will be included to give the student a deeper insight into Hispanic civilizations and culture of the Spanish - speaking people.  This course will prepare the student for the Advance Placement Examination for Spanish Language and Literature.

Course objectives:
*Develop project activities individually and groups
*Review of basic grammar and assigned readings
*Development of advanced listening, writting and conversational skills though class expositions and assignments.
*Submition of writting activities in a timely maner (assignments must be hand written in blue/black ink)
*Satisfactory completion of given objectives through the duration of the AP course.
*Learning and better understanding of the Spanish language and literature from the 1400 to the present. 
*Satisfactory completion of the AP Class Literature or Language..
*Satisfactory completion of the the AP Spanish Language or  Literature exam in May.

Student Requirements:
Students need to mantain oustanding grades and level of responsability on class and/or home asignments as readings, writting essays, projects and activities requested by the AP program instructor. Behavior: Proper behavior will be expected and stressed all the time.  Remember this is a college level class. Attendance: You are expected to attend classes and arrive on time.  If you are absent, it is your responsability to be up to date on the related work.  No late work will be accepted.  If you will be absent because of a field trip, college visit, etc. please plan ahead by getting your assignment prior to your absence.  Students must bring his/her text books, dictionaries, pen, Spanish reading books, note paper, etc. to the AP class. Homework: Students are expected to received extensive homework as readings, essays, book activities in a daily basis.  Assignmets will vary in length and should be prepared to put in QUALITY time in order to receive the best results on the AP class and exam.  Test: Test will be given on regular basis to assess the student learning and preparation during the course. Grades: 40% Total > Essays (10%), Reading comprehension and/or discussion (10%), participation (10%), homeworks(10%).  40% Total >  Mid-Term (20%) and Final exam (20%). 20% Total >  Quizzes, Extra credits to be anounced.
