The home, as part of material culture, is the very place where the intricate relations between architecture, gender and domesticity become visible. This colloquium investigates the multilayered themes evoked by the interconnections between these three terms. On the one hand, it will explore how concepts of domesticity and gender positions are constructed through the materiality of the dwelling. On the other, it will describe the transformations of traditional concepts of dwelling that have occured throughout the twentieth century. |
