Pizzas
Deep-Dish Sausage Pizza
Makes 4 servings
1 teaspoon yellow or white cornmeal
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
8 ounces refrigerated, thawed frozen or
ready-made pizza crust dough
1/2 cup tomato sauce (no salt added)
1/2 medium green bell pepper, sliced
1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
4 ounces cooked sweet or hot Italian pork
sausage, crumbled
1 1/2 ounces part-skim mozzarella cheese,
grated
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper,
or to taste
1 garlic clove, minced
Preheat oven to 450o F. Sprinkle 8" square
baking pan evenly with cornmeal; set aside.
Sprinkle flour onto work surface. Place
dough onto floured surface; turn to coat.
With rolling pin or fingers, stretch dough
into 12" circle; transfer to prepared
baking pan, pressing edges against sides of
pan to form a rim.
Spread tomato sauce evenly onto prepared
dough; top sauce evenly with bell pepper
and onion. Sprinkle vegetables evenly with
sausage, cheese, basil, black pepper and
garlic; bake 20 minutes, until cheese is
melted and crust is crispy. Cut into 4 equal
pieces and serve at once.
