By the time Janeway arrived, Seven’s body had rejected most of her implants.
“Captain,” Seven murmured. Her voice was hoarse.
“Seven.” Janeway’s eyes had tears in them.
“It is good to see you again,” Seven said weakly. “I must show you...” she started to sit up, but Janeway urged her back down.
“Save your strength, please. What are you trying to get?”
“A... padd. On the desk.”
Janeway reached over and picked it up.
“I wanted you to see it before I died.”
“What is this?” Janeway asked.
“I believe the correct term is... a love letter.”
“To me?” Shocked.
“I meant to tell you. I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
“Seven...”
“Yes, Captain?”
“Don’t call me that now.”
“Kathryn... I was... with Chakotay, and I could only think of you. It was always you.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” Janeway whispered.
“You left,” Seven’s voice didn’t hide her hurt. “You left me alone.”
“It hurt to see you with him. I couldn‘t stay. Please understand.”
“I understand now.” Seven’s voice was weak. It was nearly time.
“Seven... hear this now.”
Seven’s eyes slipped closed.
“I love you too. I always have.”
Seven smiled.
And then it ended.
