Text Box: Pop Tab Campaign for Ronald McDonald House
Who: You, your family, and neighbors
What: We are joining forces with Valley View Bank to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities by collecting metal pop tabs.  Not just from soda cans!  You can find pop tabs on Campbell's soups, pet foods, V-8 canned drink and many other places.  We will weigh our pop tabs and they will be taken to a recycler to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.  The charity receives $.65 to $.75 per pound for recycling.  As our partner, Valley View Bank will match the value of our donation with a monetary donation.

When:   From now until the end of the school year.  Our goal is to collect 10 pounds per month.  That's 80 pounds!!
Where: Collection boxes will be sent home.  When they're full bring them to school and empty them into the large barrel.
How: Ask Mom, Dad, Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, and Uncles to save their pop tabs.  Collect them and bring them to school.  It's just that easy!

Why: Ronald McDonald House Charities provide services and housing for families with sick children seeking longer term treatment in the Kansas City area.  KU Medical Center and Children's Mercy Hospital Downtown work with RMH Charities for their young patients.  Our community hospitals need our help and we're just the school to pitch in and really make a difference.Questions? call Stacee 262-7765

Soldier Update
We are pleased to announce that Staff Sergeant Shawn Walker and Staff Sergeant Barry Boswell have returned safely from their tour in Iraq. Both soldiers were part of the 1-108th Aviation Battalion stationed in Iraq for the last year. They were greeted by family, friends, Senator Sam Brownback, and Governor Kathleen Sebilius at a Welcome Home Reception on Friday, September 14th at the Kansas Expo Center in Topeka.Their families are so thankful to have them home and they truly appreciate the support of the families and staff at John Diemer.

Mrs. Frechette (Library Aide) has informed us that her grandson is also scheduled to return from overseas shortly. We are sure that her entire family will breathe a sigh of relief when he reaches the end of his tour.

For the 2007 school year we continue to support the Adopt a Soldier project. The names of 2 soldiers have been submitted to be included in the mailings we will do again this year.Captain Jake Dalton and Captain Jason Miller both have family members here at Diemer and we are pleased to be offering the soldiers and their families our support. We would like to ask the families of John Diemer to continue providing items for the soldiers. We look for items such as hard candy, gum, playing cards, beef jerky, protein bars, lo-calorie snacks, and toiletries. Most of all, letters and pictures from home truly mean the most to the men and women stationed overseas so far from their families. Thank you, John Diemer, for all you do for these brave soldiers.
