Temple Of Doom

April 11th 1999 - 10:41am - Mount Amity

Tifu stood on the rocky edge of Mount Amity, which was divided from the town of Amitywood only by the sparsest of regions of the woods which ran along the back of Amitywood. He stared out along to Marion Town waiting for a silver car to come into view. Tifu had waited for years for this moment. He had forseen the coming of the great war between the Church and the Government and he had forseen the cause of that war coming here to Amitywood today. He had waited on this rock edge for hours for a sign of the President's car as he leaned on the handle of his blade, a sword which he had been told by Father Gartner (His mentor since the day he had these visions, many years ago) would eliminate the evil within the President, who they knew would be possessed by a great evil. It would mean the death of the President but it was a price that had to be paid. In his belt he held the other artifact given to him by Father Gartner, Heaven's Window. On appearance it looked like nothing more than a small hand mirror, but it was a window which fed into whoever viewed it's soul. In an unpure soul, or an unfocussed mind's presence it would mislead whoever viewed into it, but in the focussed mind it showed a true reflection. It was used in this way to help Tifu train his thoughts till all he saw in the mirror was himself. His mind would have to be pure when he faced the evil that possessed the President, but more importantly it would keep him alive. Whoever held the mirror would be almost invulnerable, to death, but not pain, since the soul would be 'retrieved' from the mirror the instant it left the body. Father Gartner had thought these essential items, not knowing the extent of the power Tifu might be facing.

But Tifu was not afraid of that power, not anymore and he only gave the merest blink of anticipation as he saw the dust from the President's car in the distance, and he knew it was time to move. He did his best to conceal the sword in his trenchcoat and made his swift but steady way down the mountainside.

Temple Of Doom

11:02am - Amitywood Mental Asylum

They had wasted no time in shifting Blue Canary to the Asylum "until a verdict was reached". The Asylum had been built in 1965 because of Amitywood's remote location, and was just a few miles out of town. It was now owned by Amitywood's own businessman, Evan Tourbillion. It also had to serve as Blue Canary's holding place as the only cells Amitywood had were in the Police Station and were far below even most Minimum Security prisons, and due to the nature of the crimes he was accused of, this was the only place for him.

Blue Canary gritted his teeth together as he stared with red eyes out his tiny barred window to Amitywood, trying desperately but numbly to comprehend the events of the past seven days. He knew he was only responsible for one murder, of the man last night who had tried to kill him and who he knew had murdered both Becky and Bobby Englund. He couldn't be sure but he thought he may be responsible for the other deaths that had happened recently too. All he knew for sure was that he was that he didn't kill them, and he was getting blamed for them. In fact, he was as good as 'found guilty' already, since they didn't seem to suspect anyone else. He gritted his teeth further and clenched his fists on the metal bars on his cell window.

"You did the right thing, you know..."

"Shut up", said Blue Canary through clenched teeth, but Bobby Englund continued

"Me, I made the mistake of following him... for greed. But his intentions were evil, I know that now... a bit late isn't it"

Blue Canary turned to the apparition and screamed, "SHUT UP! JUST GO AWAY! YOU'RE NOT REAL!"

He collapsed onto his bed and clutched his face in his hands as he tried to remember everything that had happened. Everything since he ran out of Sinclair's Bar seemed unreal. The sounds that came from that alleyway. Bobby Englund being burned almost to a crisp. Becky Englund suddenly trying to kill him. The strange things that Baxter seemed to be doing, that seemed so unreal in themselves and worst of all Bobby Englund, appearing like a ghost before him, back in the woods and now even more so in the cell he was now in. When he wasn't talking to Blue Canary, the mere presence of him sitting there kept him from gaining any sleep that he might have gotten. Mainly because his presence made him question his own sanity. Constantly wondering if he had gone crazy at some point and hadn't known, and whether he had killed all the people he was accused of, even though he remembers the events clearly and knows he didn't...
The killings, whoever did them, were taking their toll on Blue Canary as he sat, fairly accurately assuming that either his trial's outcome has already been decided, and he stands no chance of being proved innocent or that he won't even have a trial and will be left here away from society forever.

Not more than 200 feet away President Argee's silver car pulled up outside the Asylum and Baxter made Argee's body step out and move towards the gate. He bagan to push it open when he got a sudden chill down his back, he turned round and squinted into the distance as he saw a figure running towards where he was, he signalled for the driver if the President's car to move out the way so he could see.
Once the car was out the way Baxter could only tell that the figure was moving very fast and that he was sensing nothing from him. Normally Baxter's acute senses could feel emotion coming from any living creature, but this one was a blank slate, it seemed.
Nevermind, he thought. He had gathered enough power to cast flames upon whatever it was and, though this would drain him somewhat, he didn't feel like he'd need much power to finish off Blue Canary who was most likely confined to a single cell. He raised his hands and waited till he felt the power raise through his arms, when he felt there was enough he unleashed it, and a glowing red wall of flame raised high into the air above the figure, where it spun round on itself until it was a burning ball of fire. Baxter quickly shot down Argee's arms and the ball of fire fell upon the figure and exploded, creating a cloud of dust that quickly settled.
Baxter waited for the dust to settle, when he saw that the figure was no longer running towards him before turning and proceeding to push open the large steel gate leading into the Asylum but before he could get the gates lock undone the figure he thought had been banished was upon him and had grabbed him by the throat.

"Time's up Argee!", Tifu exclaimed, bringing his blade up to point into Argee's face.

Baxter acted quickly and conjured a gust of strong wind to blow Tifu far enough away for him to dart to the side and make a break away, while the Army Officer in his car emerged brandishing a rifle and aiming it at Tifu, who was picking himself up from the ground.

"Halt or I fire!", the officer barked

Tifu did little more than smirk before stepping towards the President again. Before he could warn him again the officer fired his weapon and caught Tifu in the side, sending him back down to the ground, but only for a moment, before he stood but up, cringed but continued his advance.

"I said Halt!", the officer barked again, clearly with not much meanign in his voice as he fired a second shit into Tifu's head.

Baxter edged towards Tifu's now lifeless body, rubbing his neck with his hand and keeping an eye on Tifu. He kicked him over and ordered the officer to open fire on the body, which he proceeded to do, letting Baxter make his way through the gate and onward toward the Asylum itself, before he heard running footsteps behind him. He turned just in time to see the enraged face of Tifu, his wound to the head all but healed, charging towards him with his sword pointed towards him. Baxter tried to conjure up enough energy to back Tifu away but it was in vain, within second Tifu had run his sword through Argee's chest, and slowly Baxter felt himself lose control of Argee's body altogether. Slowly he lost all thought, and he realised he had no body or life to claim, and he drifted into non-existence forever.

Argee blinked his eyes, coughed up a little blood and stared blinking at the man who had just appeared in front of him. He stared down to see the sword jutting out of his stomache which currently was keeping him nailed to the wooden door behind him.

Argee grasped the blade and shook his head. His head seemed clear, for the first time in months, despite the terrible pain that was now encompassing him. It now seem clear to him, how he had been tricked by the strange man, Thomas Baxter, who had seemed to entrance him straight away. He knew deep down though that it was his opinions, his prejudices, that had made him vulnerable to Baxter's powers. It seemed a little late fro any redemption but he tried to utter a gargled "Sorry" to the man standing staring at him, with a vague look of sympathy.

The man nodded, and as if triggered by the nod, Argee's life left him and he was no more. Tifu ducked his head slightly and pulled his blade from the door, and took the body of the late President Argee over his shoulder and proceeded to the car where the military officer and the President's driver lay unconscious, positioned the President in the back seat while shoving the other two out and drove off just in time to avoid being seen by two men in white coats who stormed out teh front door, startled by the noises outside.

The two men scrambled around looking for any sign of the noise. They both ran over to where the two men lay unconscious by the skid marks and examined them while Evan Tourbillion came out of the doors carrying his briefcase, with a slightly raised eye at the scene before him. He reached down to examine the blood stains that laced the ground but something else caught his eye while he was bent over.
He stretched over and picked up a beautiful hand mirror that was lying face-down in the dust. He looked in it briefly, he couldn't tell what it was but this was enticing. He looked up at the two men in white coats. They weren't looking. He quickly slipped the mirror into his briefcase and shouted over to them.

"I think someone better call the police", he said calmly

One of the men ran into the building again, nodding, as Evan strolled out towards his car at the side of the building, he glanced into the briefcase and silently was thrilled at his find, and imagined how glad his wife, Kathy, would be when she saw this shining Mirror.

Meanwhile, Blue Canary had been staring out at the whole event, somehow knowing that he had been saved somehow by it. He turned his head slowly and stared at the landscape of the valley of Amitywood. This landscape he had called home for the past 30 years, man and boy. He mulled over the hillsides and the long vibrant green forest that stretched along to the plains which reached the edge of the land that he, and his parents, had always called 'home'. But now, it seemed, he'd be calling this white-lined room home for at least a while.

He sighed and sank onto his bed and picked up the newspaper the staff had slid through to him earlier that day. He looked at the title, "The Crystal Lake County Herald". Letting out abigger sigh he lay down and closed his eyes.

"Goodnight Bobby..." he grunted.
