| This morning Cameron and I fished a small wildcat tournament out of Greensport Marina. We decided to stay downriver and try to find some heads in the grass. We fished points and cuts that had grass with a Jig. We stuck several good fish but getting them out of the grass was a different story. Cameron put the first keeper fish in the boat and then I backed it up with a good solid 4 pounder. We stayed in the area for a while and managed to come away with three good keepers and missing more than twice that many. Cameron and I both missed a couple of solid 3 pound fish in this area and decided to let it rest for awhile and run up into Canoe Creek. We looked for grass with deeper water close by because they were dropping the water level pretty quick in anticipation of heavy rains due in tonight and tomorrow. The fish pulled out on the outside of the grass and anything with 4-6 feet of water close to the weedline was holding catchable fish. We filled our limit by 9 am and went looking for a couple of kicker fish to put us over what we believed to be about the 12 plus pounds we had. We hit a few areas that looked good but I believe the falling water really messed with the fish and shut the bite down. At around 11:30 am we turned to the wind to help us out a bit and headed back to the area we started in this morning, knowing the wind would be on this weedline. Within 20 minutes we hooked up with the fish we needed. Cameron hit the first.....a head pushing 3 lbs. and the I slammed into what turned out to be the big fish of the tournament, a 4.5 lb. head. With a little over an hour to go we worked this weedline hard but came up empty. Weigh in was at 1:30 pm and we placed 2nd with 15.53 lbs. and big fish. # Fish Caught 15 Big Fish 4.5 lb (Largemouth) Total Weight 15.53 lbs. Placed 2nd (And Big Fish) $375.00 |
