| Started this moring just off the main river in a pocket with a mix of shallow rock and wood. The fish were somewhat active due to warmer weather and the presence of a good amount of wind out of the ESE. The first thing to hit the water was my "Good Ole" confidence bait, a jighead rigged with a 4" finesse worm. After finess'n up nothing but water for the first twenty minutes or so I decided to try a Lucky Craft jerkbait, working it slowly and with long pauses trying to locate something. The jighead went back in and I hooked up with a nice 3+lb spot. I caught 3 or 4 more on the jighead and I tried the jerkbait again and picked up two 2 lbers pretty quick using the slow presentation. The cadence seemed to be jerk, jerk, jerk, pause 5-10 seconds, jerk, pause then repeat. The next fish was the biggest of the day going a little over 4 but was the lightest bite thus far. After the first series of jerks and the pause I went to jerk again but got "JERKED" myself. I never felt the fish hit, he must have just run up and closed his mouth around it and sat there thinking......"ooops!" I have to say fishing a jerkbait can be tiresome and repetitive but once you figure out the way to get them to react to it, it sure is productive and FUN! I hit a few more places with generally the same water depth, cover and location to deeper water but only managed a couple of short fish. I ended the day with around 12lbs in the best 5. Best 5 +/- 12 lbs. Big Fish 4.5 lb Spot # Fish Caught 10 |
