I've been inside all day
because the roads are slick
been doing nothing but sippin away
on my automatic drip
until my legs and brain and heart
decide to move
and it's a "road trip" to anywhere
that's really nowhere to be sure
I cross the streets in the gayberhood
with flags and signs and lights,
turn a corner onto Smith Street
where a rodent traps my eyes
ambling across my automobile
right there, taps on the hood
it's a big ass rat or cat or..
an opossum eatin' real good
and I can't help but laugh
at the city traipsin' fool
he thinks it's better where there's litter
smells some better varied food
he can't know how many times
I've tried to find that too
he'll never grow half as wise
as my overfed under-held ass could

so I pull up behind a van
with a bunch of jesus fish on the end
and I wonder if it's some WASPY
middle-aged couple eating greasy spam
but as I pass the driver's side
i see a bunch of punkers partying inside
not anything i expected to see
well, I guess they're pretty much like me
I'm about as likely as an
opossum in downtown
people think they can tell
people think they've figured me out
and written me all down
but I am never what they expect
I am always a different brand
chewing through my traps
always looking back
always leaving that cheese
so what if I don't want to stay here
