I have changed so much since writing these first on paper, and then placing them online. Very few of them remain on my "set lists" today; and of those that do, they appear in morphed form. I suppose that is the truest nature of art...its ability to portray whatever place the artist, world, etc... are within at any time the art is shared. Daunting is the task to place these pieces of my psyche online while I am still marinating as an "insert some words such as musician, singer, songwriter, muser, dreamer, author." Writing is not a new animal for me. (You see how difficult this is proving to be as far as keeping it short goes?) I was the little geeky one writing on lunch breaks instead of munching my Teddy grahams, in my Texas public schools. My family is musical by DNA (father was a singing bartender, mother played several instruments and sang, sister played guitar and sang). I was classically trained vocally from age 6 if memory serves, participated in musical theatre much of my childhood, was classically trained on french horn and trumpet, and like every other musician, like to think I can play many more instruments. I gave up music after leaving public school. It was not until my university days that I found first vocals, then guitar. Discovering independent music (Ani is a given, Melissa Ferrick, Indigo Girls, et al) really drove home the power of self-propulsion when the message and means are mutually exclusive to one's art. Ever since hearing my first non-BMG CD, I have been "musicalizing" old pieces, creating new ones, banging away on these six strings trying to come alive on their gritty grid. I am a work in progress...much progress to come. I've mellowed from angry, fed up politician with a very present sense of angst, to a woman in love with the world around us. People are blessings, and every crash is a lesson larger than any calm day could ever tow. Verbosity aside, thank you for reading this far. My honor is that there is a venue like the internet and a thing called music with which we may share ourselves anytime, anywhere. Peace, Ellee
