I'm in Chicago walking to a show
when I make a wrong turn down an alley
assuming it's faster when I'm what's slower.
Down in the noon light I see a black face.
She can't be older than twelve
and all I notice is her race.
With my Mother's hate
she catches my brain
but maybe it's me she should
be afraid of this time.
Because I am 100 miles tall
and 3000 miles wide
I am the real threat
with a culture's bias inside.
I hope she quickens her pace
Just to be safe.
I would too
but it's hard to walk away
from what's been
spoon fed to you
An hour later I see her again
This time, she's got funny eyes and golden skin.
And I see a manifestation of fear
in her back as I pass by
with all my judgments in full attack
she knows why.
It's shit to hate what you don't know
CLose your eyes in the middle of this melting show
For it's not sights therein that will help you grow.
No, it's the other senses you should be learning from
so...
Yes, use your other common senses and maybe
we can keep this planet turning,
churning on in a rainbow flow
arching high and brighter than a Vegas show.
We've been blessed with a freedom most of the world doesn't know.
and yet we are so blind to the right emanating from their glow.
Two hours later I can't believe my eyes
I see a queer...
sight
it's the first girl with a surprise.
She's kicking a squirrel as if it were a can
And I have to hate her all over again.
Oh, it's a crazy world we live in
It's a racy world we live in
But you gotta keep on trying
Yeah
It's a crazy, racy world we live in
But you better keep on with that trying.
