Toast

Making good toast is not always as simple as you may think. . Heres my easy step by step guide to creating the perfect warmed bread snack.

Ingredients

2 slices of raw bread (of your choice)

Method

First you must choose the type of bread to be toasted, this decision will make or break your toast. Id recommend a good quality granary loaf such as Warburtons but please try and support your local bakery if possible. Next, how thick do you want it sliced, anywhere between to of an inch thick is ideal.

Now choose which method of toasting you are going to employ. This may sound like a tall order but fear not, as long as your in possession of a grill your halfway to bitchin toast. You must ensure that the grill pan is free of any cheese debris or sausage/bacon grease. I cannot stress enough how important this last point is. If you want your toast tasting cheesy, beefy or bacony then feel free to proceed (it is particularly unpleasant if you have prepared fish fingers under the grill). Otherwise head for the sink, get scrubbing and then we may begin.

Of course its a matter of personal preference but ideally your toast should be just the right side of crunchy while still maintaining a warm soft center. To this end Id recommend keeping a close guard throughout the toasting process, maintaining a constant vigil on your toasts progress. As soon as the bread begins to take on a light brown hue turn it over and repeat the process (minus the turning as there is no need to toast the first side a second time). As soon as you are satisfied remove the toast from the grill and place on a plate covered with a sheet of kitchen roll (this is to prevent soggification).

You are now ready to consume your treat, Bon appetit!!

Note: It is common to spread either butter, honey or jam on your toast. This is known as a topping.
