Totem Poles
One evening when the pond water where I live was almost drying up, I saw a strange thing scampering across the mud flats. The next morning, I made a plaster cast of the animal's foot prints in the mud surrounding the pond.
I took it up to the Audubon Center, and low and behold, it was a river otter. Apparently, my otter 'friend' was travelling from one river to another, when he  ... or she ... saw the pond and all the frogs and fish in it. The frogs and fish were very fortunate. When I discovered the otter before he got to the pond water, he scurried off.
I painted the otter foot prints and mounted them on red cedar. Then I had an idea! Why not do a river otter swinging from two totem poles for all to see? Here is the photograph of the totem poles and the swinging river otter.
