Fair dice
Updated: April 10, 2002

It is interesting to consider the design of a "fair" cylindrical die. Suppose it was desirable to have a three sided die with equal probabilities for the three outcomes. In that case, the probability of landing on end should be 2/3 (that is, 66.7%). If the die is rolled on a table made of 2.40 mm thick glass, the ratio of height/diameter should be (fill in number later). Whereas if the die is rolled on a table made of 15.50 mm thick glass, the ratio of height/diameter should be (fill in number later).

This page is still under construction.
