OTHER INFORMATION
LORNA IRENE MAY
Lorna was born at Dungog in central N.S.W, on June 10 1912 to Sarah and James Kennedy. She was one of five children having three brothers and one sister.
Her three brothers all saw service during World War Two. Her baby brother Eric died when his plane was shot down over India. Keith later saw service in Korea and Vietman and Norm returned to run the local Co-Op at Kempsey.
She spent most of her early years enjoying a variety of activities including hockey and ballroom dancing at which she was very proficient and became a champion ballrom dancer.
Lornas father Jim was an Engineer. He worked for Shire Councils which meant moving from Dungog to Moree and Temora before settling in Kempsey. She met Jack May who with his father ran the local Blacksmith Business, which evolved into a Car Service and Repair Business.
One of her first jobs after leaving school was to work at Fosseys at Kempsey.
She moved to Sydney with Jacks family when they purchased a Grocery Bussiness at Rose Bay North. Lorna and Jack were married at St. Stephens in Sydney in October 1938.
They were the proud parents of Gloria, Beverley and John.
Lorna had a very busy life being part owner of a business and was very busy in the Parents and Citizens Association, Girl Guides, Dover Heights Bowling Club, of which she was president for some years, and a variety of community activities which raised money for the Autistic Society. She was an excellent organizer and many relied on her ability.
Jack and Lorna moved from Dover Heights to a unit in Conrad Beard Court, Edina at Bondi Junction. Jack passed away in 1993. She made many friends at Edina, in particular the Saturday afternoon card group.
She also enjoyed working as part of the Edina group to raise money for the Complex. She assisted others by organizing and setting up Indoor Bowls in the Community Room each week. She also enjoyed participating in all the Edina activities as long as she could.
Lorna had three children, five grand children and four great grand children.
She has always been of a cheerful nature and was never one to complain. In all spheres of her life she has always been popular and good company. She led a very active and busy life and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
It is a comfort to all of us that her last days were spent in a pain free situation with her family present at her passing.
