As a pup she enjoyed her baby pool.
Here she's doing her Jaws imitation.

Ah, Mom, why'd you throw
my frog into the pool?

Are you taking
my picture again?

The most shade
in the whole yard!

Roxie came into our lives in May, 1988 at 10 weeks of age.  From the time we brought her home I knew she was an exceptional pup.

Pemlea Kennel
Roxie came from Pemlea Kennels in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Norine Haupt raised her, and by the time we picked her up she was practically housebroken, understood that brushing was a good thing, and only argued once about nail clipping. Sadly, Norine passed away in 1999 too.  Can only surmise she was calling some of her best pups home.

First Day Home
When we got her home, the first thing we did was take her out into the backyard so she could take care of business.  When I took a bowl of water to her the first thing she did was start playing in the water.  Hmmm, this dog LIKES water ... so I got her her own baby pool (Russ thought I was crazy).  But on hot summer days, especially after obedience class, she loved to crawl into her pool for a refreshing dip.

Corgwyn Behaviors
Corgis (or corgwyn as the Welsh would say) are noted for funny personality traits, and Roxie had her share.

Sneezing Roxie hated sneezing. If you would even start to sneeze she would run at you and bark. If she was in another area of the house and heard you sneeze, she'd come running and barking. She exhibited this behavior since the day we brought her home. When we were outside and I wanted her to come, I didn't call her, I sneezed!

Phone Ringing I never had to worry about not hearing the phone as its ringing drove her bonkers.  If I was in another room, she'd run in and bark at me to let me know that darn thing was making a noise.  If I even picked up the phone she would start to carry on.

Vacuuming Roxie hated the vacuum cleaner, and new just where to bite it to flip the rocker switch to the OFF position. Saying "bad dog" did not work with her, but "shame on you" really had an impact.

Water Spigot Roxie hated it whenever you'd turn the outside water spigot on ... the squeal of the metal again metal was something she just didn't want to hear. If you took one step in the direction of the spigot, she was right there barking at you. If she was inside she'd run to the wall where the outdoor spigot was and would paw at the baseboard. Somehow the marks on the baseboard don't bother me anymore.

Smell The Roses Roxie wasn't motivated by play, but by food.  Hence, she was a rather sedentary pup.  I'd let her outside and, rather than run about checking everything out, she preferred to sit in the middle of the yard observing her domain.  We never had to worry about her running, except on July 4th.

Oh, how you left us too soon, Roxie.
