New settlers give Expo the thumbs up

An estimated 10,000 people visited the highly successful Migrant Expo at Alexandra Park in Auckland from 23-24 October. And over 200 job-seekers attended the New Kiwi Employment Conference which was held concurrently.
This the first expo of its kind organised in New Zealand, was officially opened by Mr Chris Carter the Minister for Ethnic Affairs and Dr Wayne Mapp, National MP for North Shore.
The expo was organised by Migrant News and sponsored by the Migrant Banking Division of ASB Bank.
"I wish this expo was organised five years ago when I first came here," said Deepak, a visitor to the show. "Back then, I had to get information about settlement the hard way. Here migrants can get a lot of information under one roof," he added
The number of people coming through amazed me. Your marketing was obviously very good," said one exhibitor. Another exhibitor was reported in the New Zealand Herald as saying that he received more prospects in the first two hours at the Migrant Expo than he would have in a whole day at some other shows he has participated in.
Over 60 exhibitors too part in the show. Products and services on show ranged from banking, financial services, legal and immigration services, recruitment, carer advice, governmentorganizations, road safety information, resource centres, a health expo, as well as internet and car buying options.
A Korean investor, Mrs. Kim Seoung Ja, won a free trip to Bali courtesy of Garuda Indonesia and Migrant News and a lucky visitor won a $500 ASB Bank account.
The migrant Expo will be held twice each year in Auckland. The organisers are inviting Filipino business people to consider participating in the show to reach the wider migrant community.
