Auckland rocks Tauranga

Diario Filipino No. 28/Dec 2004

The Labour weekend has been quite tiring but truly exciting as the Auckland sports contingent got ready for the annual reunion held at Tauranga this year.

According to re-elected Council of Auckland Philippine Organisations (CAPO) President, Sam Dignadice, CAPO sent the most expansive sports delegation in Tauranga - basketball, bowling, volleyball, badminton, pool, table tennis, lawn tennis, and golf. The athletes gave their best shot and were very successful. Proof of this was CAPO retaining the Federation Cup, the Wellington Shield and the Rotorua Sportsmanship Award. Most major sports awards were bagged by the CAPO sports
delegation and this is in a two consecutive victories for the Labour weekend celebrations we have had in 2003 and 2004.

Our Bb. Pilipinas-NZ candidate, Eireen Lorenzo, also represented CAPO with a lot of poise, charisma and just being herself but with total self-confidence. She finished 2nd runner up in the toughest part and one of the highlights of the "Fiesta sa Tauranga 2003" festivities. Aimee Weavers, CAPO representative and last year's Bb. Pilipinas-NZ candidate, did her walk of honour and handed over her crown to the winner, Maria Cecelia Ware from Rotorua. Aimee was glam as ever.

This Labour weekend was just another testimony to the great CAPO bonding by each member organisation's efforts and solidarity to its purpose and objectives. CAPO is about having fun and about great achievement for all and by all. Congratulations to Auckland for bringing home the bacon! Auckland really rocks!
