LITTLE HANNAH JANE

(I Took The Long Way Home)

I had always been a one dog woman, my special dog, until I received an email from a Cocker Message Board member that lived in the same town as we do asking me if I had considered having more than one Cocker? I of course was curious so told him that I might consider it and who was the dog? He emailed me back and told me that it was his Hannah. I was surprised to say the least as I knew he had not had her long at all. I told him that I would like to meet her so we set up a meeting. I went along, without Dolly, to meet him and it was love at first sight with this little black angel.

I told Mike that I loved her but since Dolly had been an “only dog” for six years it would be her final decision. We made arrangements for Dolly to meet Hannah on neutral ground that evening at a park. Dolly met Hannah and gave her the “sniff-over” and I saw that Hannah was being sweet and submissive to Doll. I thought this might work. The rest of the story is history as we have enjoyed Hannah Jane for 4 years now. I knew that Mike had adopted her from our local shelter when she was only 11 mos old and I, through some sniffing of my own, found out that she had been placed there by her owner, a volunteer there, because of unexpected health problems with her husband that would involve a lot of travel and being away from home turned her baby over so that she could have the kind of home she deserved.

Hannah fit right in with our family like she had always been there. She and Dolly had a few rough spots in the beginning, but Hannah’s sweet disposition and forgiving way won Dolly over in the end. I can’t remember what our family was like without Hannah.

Hannah loves to do her own gardening too, especially the green beans. Those are her favorite. She picks her own choice beans and eats them right in the garden. If I could only get her to help me can the beans.

Hannah has been such a joy for us and such a good friend to Dolly too. She’s my little snuggle, kissy girl and I am so fortunate to share my life with my little black angel that found her way home to us.
