"This estate
agent's photograph shows the typical 1970's open plan estate
garden:
a lawn with a border under the window, and a border along one
edge of the path.
I had absolutely no idea what to do with this, so while I waited
for inspiration,
I decided to fill my front garden with scent. I filled new
borders with
lavender seedlings, daffodil bulbs, and rosemary."

"After a day behind
a desk it is nice to be able to sit out in the evening sun,
but the only part of my garden with sun at this time of the day
is at the front.
Inspiration at last! I decided to create a more secluded area for
my front garden.
The open plan design of the estate prevents anything over 1 metre
high from being
put up in the front gardens, so I wandered around to see what
other people had done.
The dreaded Leylandii was the most popular solution - not for me
, though."

"Finally I found
what I wanted - trellis with a wavy top.
By using 2 different widths and leaving gaps,
it provides seclusion without being totally cut off.
People still greet me through the trellis, but I don't feel like
I'm on show.
And the extra vertical space means more growing space!
Log roll edging keeps down maintenance."

in the country!"

" The effect is
completed now with looped rope in gaps
between sections of trellis"
