And Away We Go!

Dear Parents,

Fall is just around the corner and so is our field trip to Upland Hills Farm. I am pleased that so many of you want to join us. As you know, we can only take one or two parents on the bus with us. So, if you offered to drive, chances are you will. I'll have maps available the day of the trip. If you haven't done so already, please send in your child's permission slip.

Our Sticker Reading program is going well. The moms jumped right in and the children are enjoying "getting a sticker" when they master a word family. The short vowel book is an important part of our reading program and is designed to help your child decode words. Please spend 15 to 20 minutes per night with your child practicing one column (or word family) at a time. Once you feel confident that your child has "mastered" a word family, please initial that column. Remember, these books are to travel back and forth to school every day.

Parents, if your child does not have a gym uniform, please contact our school office at 248-682-3422. Gym uniforms are required.

As always, thanks for your support and have a great week!
Ms. Kopilchack

Now, for a look at this week's activities:

Language Arts
Our story for this week is The Chick and the Duckling. Our focus this week will be on cause and effect relationships and reading comprehension.

Our Word Wall now contains 52 words including our names. The majority of words that go on the wall are sight words. That is, they do not necessarily follow the rules of spelling and must be learned by sight. These words appear on your child's weekly spelling list. The children do not need to learn how to spell sight words at this time; only recognize them.

We continue to write in our Journals. I'm very impressed with the children's ability to use what they know about letter sounds to put together words. I also enjoy reading their entries. (Yes, I can read them!)

Phonics
We continue reviewing initial consonant letters/ sounds. We are also identifying ending sounds.

Math
We continue our review of numbers 1 20. This week we will take a look at ordinal numbers and patterns.

Science
We've learned how to classify animals into various groups and how animals move. This week we'll explore animal coverings (i.e. fur, feathers, scales, etc.) and insects.

Religion
This week we'll talk about one of God's most precious gifts to us: the special people in our lives.

Homework Study spelling words, read to/with your child, practice wordbooks, attached activity.

Note: Library books due on Wednesday.
