Dear Parents,
Well, today is our big day at the
Ann Arbor
Hands-on Museum! By the time you read this, your child
has probably told you all about it!
Here's hoping you had a wonderful Mothers Day! It was so nice
to see you all last Friday; it meant so much to the children
to have you there. The children worked very hard on your portrait
and put lots of effort into saying just the right thing about
you. Before long you'll have beautiful flowers (Marigolds) growing
in your hand-painted pot and don't forget to "cash in"
on your coupon!
This week is our Scholastic Book Fair. We love this book fair
because it's buy one, get one free! Here's the perfect opportunity
to stock up on summer reading materials for your child. We will
visit the Book Fair tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. Don't forget to send
money in a labeled envelope, or better yet, a ziplock bag.
Speaking of books, Scholastic book orders for May are due this
Friday. This will be our last book order of the year.
Because we missed our last two gym periods, Mr. Mazur is giving
us an extra gym period this week! In addition to Friday, we'll
have gym tomorrow, immediately after we visit the Book Fair.
Please send your child to school in his/her gym clothes and shoes.
We'll change into our uniforms afterward.
Last week you received information regarding a summer learning
program. I urge you to take advantage of it to keep your child
learning throughout the summer.
Attached is information regarding our First Grade Picnic.
Have a great week!

This week's activities:
Reading/Writing
Our story this week is
"Just A Little Bit." This story introduces us to the
idea of a cumulative sequence of events. We'll also explore the
use of adjectives in a story and how descriptive words can make
our own writing more interesting.
We'll be doing lots of writing from here on out. In addition
to our journal writing, we'll be writing about ourselves and
what we learned in first grade.
Phonics/Word Wall Activities
We continue with digraphs
this week and will wrap up the year with contractions.
Math
We are learning to tell time to the
hour and half-hour. We are also learning about measurement.
Science
We continue to learn about
the weather this week. We'll be doing lots of hands-on activities
to support this theme.
We are also learning about butterflies. Our live caterpillars
will soon begin their transformation into the chrysalis stage.
Religion
We continue to learn about
the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Homework
- Study spelling words, practice telling time to the hour and
